Interests & Experiences
Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I would like to use my diverse background in law, consulting, investigation, professorship, and mediation to serve the needs of the Burbank community. Having been a resident of Burbank for my entire adult life, I have always desired to be a part of a collaborative decision-making process that betters the community.

Having watched Burbank grow for over the past two decades, I have stood in great admiration of many of the decisions our local government has made in turning Burbank into one of the most well-respected areas in Southern California. I am certain that I can be a part of the next generation of great leaders if given the honor to participate in our local government.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I am interested in serving on a commission because of my interest in the direction that the City of Burbank is headed. As climate change accelerates, I am worried that we have become too insular in regard to regional planning. There have been various positive infrastructure improvements in the last several years when it comes to transportation in Burbank, but I believe we can do more and be more inclusive of non- automobile-related travel. For this reason among others, I am interested in both the Tranportation Commission and the Sustainability Commission. As I believe, you cannot have one without the other.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

I've been interested in planning since I was a Junior at Burbank High School in 2009. I was a part of Youth and Government at the Burbank YMCA and it was there that we got to go to Sacramento and experience how government functioned at the state level and where I learned about Urban Planning as a field. I graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2015 where I majored in Urban Studies and deeply became invested in work focused on social justice. Since graduating, the experiences I have gained have been a strong catalyst for raising my intellectual inquiry and intense desire to understand how organizations function and how to best serve different stakeholders on various projects. In the three years since, I have had incredible opportunities to work for Beacon Economics an independent economic research and consulting firm located in Los Angeles, California. Have participated and received a certificate in a nine-month non-profit management fellowship, the Riordan Leadership Institute where I served as a board fellow at the Downtown Women’s Center, an organization exclusively dedicated to addressing the needs of women overcoming poverty and homelessness on Skid Row, and as a former Planning Intern in the cities of Glendale and Burbank. At Beacon Economics my primary responsibilities were focused on creating workflows with the research and management staff to put together economic analysis proposals for clients such as banks, investment firms, hedge funds, the State of California, real estate companies, private foundations, non-profit organizations, cities, counties, public and private universities, and trade and business organizations. In my experiences and as a former Planning Intern in the cities of Glendale and Burbank, I have come to understand the interconnectedness and balance of the social, economic, and physical aspects of planning.

The most powerful tool I’ve utilized throughout my
short career thus far is Geographic Information Systems, and working with and FOR communities through participatory planning efforts to increase the quality of life for everyone. I hope to continue to utilize that skill and the skills I’ve developed working with clients that range from everyday people to banks, investment firms and hedge funds, government, real estate companies, private foundations, and non-profit organizations to help make Burbank a better place to live.
