FIRST choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:
Burbank Water and Power Board
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
I served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District from 1992 -2004. During my tenure I was a lead negotiator in discussions on Colorado River water transfers from Imperial Irrigation District to the San Diego County Water Authority and in negotiations to prevent proposed water extraction from the aquifer underlying the Mojave. During my tenure MWD engaged in extensive efforts to harden the regional water supply against future droughts - this included conservation programs and development of the Diamond Valley Reservoir. Throughout my tenure on the board there was a consistent effort to manage ongoing demand, anticipate and plan for long range supply needs, while maintaining and improving infrastructure all within budget.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My interest is working to maintain Burbank's "first in class" standing among municipal water and power agencies by continuing to focus on reliability of services and the cutting edge environmental leadership of projects like the utility's eco-campus. The agency is facing significant challenges of maintaining supply, finding innovative ways to make ever more efficient use of the resources we have, and reducing the impact of increased conservation on the BWP's rate structure. For example, are we able to develop effective ways to use or water bank the supplies currently lost to the ocean through the Burbank East Channel?

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I'm interested in serving on Burbank Water and Power (BWP)'s board because I want to see the the utility accelerate the transition to renewable energy. I was born and raised in Santa Clarita and have called Southern California my home since birth; it has been a gift. BWP has an opportunity to be a leader in sourcing clean energy here in Southern California and to navigate the water-energy nexus with aplomb. I want to serve on BWP's board to collaborate with other like-minded citizens for a cleaner, healthier, and equitable future.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
I have a BS in Ecology and a minor in Film, Television, & Digital Media from UCLA and a masters degree in public health (MPH) from USC. My MPH led me to want to engage in climate-related work for the rest of my life; utilities and cities are key to solving the climate crisis. I have 3+ years of work experience in the clean transportation and energy sector in public affairs (policy, grant-writing, regulatory consulting) and marketing roles.
My work experience taught me that utilities are well-positioned to lead on climate change solutions through procuring renewable energy for electricity, developing greener electricity rates, providing incentives for transportation electrification, expediting the permitting process, developing relationships with their customers, and much more. I understand that different utility structures (i.e. publicly-owned, investor-owned, and community choice aggregators) can be complex and come with varying rules and regulations as dictated by the California Public Utilities Commission that ultimately affect how the general public gets their electricity. Going forward, I want to channel my understanding and multi-faceted experiences into a brighter future for the City and all.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My goal would be to help bring BWP procure 100% renewable energy by 2030.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? While completing a Women's Leadership program at Yale University, I evaluated research which demonstrates that increasing women's board participation leads to higher quality decision making, reduced operational risk, faster innovation, and better financial results. Interests & Experiences
Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I grew up in the area, but it took me a few years before I finally came back and settled into the Burbank area. I attended college out of state and was an Officer in the US Navy. But my immediate family is here and that drew me back. Since moving into the area with my wife, we've come to realize this is our forever home. We love everything that Burbank has to offer, and I would really love the opportunity to help give back to the community. From my training in nuclear energy with the Navy to now being a part of Mitsubishi Electric US, I've had a connection to energy. Looking to join the Water and Power group would be a wonderful opportunity to use my skillset to give back to the community.

Education
I received my degree in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University. From there, I went to attend the Navy's Nuclear Training Program, where I learned nuclear power to run nuclear reactors on Aircraft Carriers.
Additional Pertinent Courses or Training
I recently graduated from a course at Georgetown University called the Strategic Management Course. It was designed to analyze a group (For Profit, Nonprofit, Public) from all the environmental impacts and help to develop a strategic plan for the future. This involved determining all the customers, stakeholders, and business risks and opportunities within the company's sector. We then took that foundation we built to develop our mission, vision, core values and strategy goals for where we wanted to see the group go. We did our capstone project on a nonprofit model and it was truly fascinating to walk through and put together.
Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
I am Scrum Certified and head up the Lean Transformation program for my company in our effort to continuously improve our business model and practices. We follow the Toyota model of Lean to find areas of non-value added aspects of our business and work through kaizen events to improve upon those areas to gain better efficiency.
Community Involvement

I volunteer with both my high school and local University group. For my high school, I volunteer however I can. From judging robotics tournaments to talking on Veterans' Day, I aim to always be there as a resource for the students. For my local university group, I sit on the LA Alumni Admissions Council Board of Directors. I work with local alumni to connect them to prospective students in the SoCal area for interviews and meet and greets.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
My background and experience comes from two main areas: US Navy and Mitsubishi Electric US.
With
the US Navy, I gained knowledge and experience in nuclear energy.
It provided me with not just a basic
sense of how nuclear energy functions but from a broader perspective, it taught me good engineering and questioning attitudes.
It helped me to not just accept a situation for what it was but to ask what can be the root cause and how something can be solved.
My current role within Mitsubishi Electric gives me a strong understanding in CA Codes, strategy planning, operations and budgets.
It is my responsibility, in my
current role, to ensure my division stays within all of these guidelines.
I work with LADBS about permits
and code interpretations.
I plan and execute my branches current budget plan for the entire fiscal year.
I
work with my team to develop our mission and vision for each year to ensure that we are meeting our goals.
Additionally as mentioned within this application, I recently completed a Certificate on Strategic Management.
This course helps me to better look a group's current situation, analyze it for what it is and develop a clear message outward to all its customers and stakeholders for where the group wants to go.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My goal would be simple.
I would like to be able to be a resource for the board and for the community as needed.
Water & energy in Southern California are becoming more and more critical.
I read through the
flyer that BWP recently put out and really feel that we need to encourage everyone to make these positive changes for our community and neighborhood wherever we can as well as properly preserve and manage the resources we do have.
