First Choice
FIRST choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Board of Library Trustees
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

I have a deep love of library science and have participated in several book clubs, conferences, and other library events including those administered by the Burbank Public Library. I feel the Burbank Library is an amazing community resource and, with other members of my family, including my two small children, participate in many of the programs the Library offers at all three sites across the City of Burbank. I have passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and after spending a year substitute teaching K-12 for the Burbank Unified School District, I became more interested in library science and the enormous community resource that libraries provide. I am an active member of the Friends of the Burbank Library, as well as the American Library Association, attending their annual conference in Seattle, Washington in 2019.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Public libraries are dynamic, socially responsive institutions, teeming with diversity, and act as a lifeline for the most vulnerable among us. My goal in serving on the Board of Library Trustees is to work with other members of the board to help establish rules and regulations for the maintenance and improvement of the public libraries in Burbank so they can continue to be a extraordinary resource for all members of the community.

Second Choice

I have learned quite a bit about the operation and need for city boards and commissions in the past 8 years and hope to continue to extend my service to the Burbank community by offering my expertise to the Community Development Goals Committee should an appointment to the Board of Library Trustees not be possible at this time.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My goal in serving on the Community Development Goals Committee is to continue to extend my service to Burbank City Council members as well as the Burbank community.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? My family immigrated from Armenia 36 years ago. At that time Armenia was part of communist Russia.

My family was so grateful for the freedoms and opportunities USA offers. I learned through my parent the value of giving back and participating in community affairs. All three of my children have attended and graduated from Burbank schools. I was very active in the PTA and other school activities. I have learned through my association with the Burbank Chamber the importance and value of working with city to help our city grow and prosper.

Burbank Housing Corporation Board of Directors
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

My ability to speak several languages, Armenian, Russian, French will help with getting more of Burbank community to be involved as well as relate to as a fellow immigrant.

When I left my birth country, Armenia,
I was only 15 years old and still saw the pain in my parents eyes having to give up the home they worked hard to build for their family.

But in our case we knew we were escaping a regime that did not have our best interests and coming to a country where we would not be persecuted and with hard work we could own our home again.

Currently our country and especially our county is facing some extreme homelessness statistics.

The cost of housing has been rising and the
number of housing is scarce to say
the least.

I like to work with the city leaders and the community to help and come up with solutions for affordable housing especially for those in lower income households.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Housing is a very important component of any individual's life. I wish to be part of the group that will put forth and implement real solitons for a very real problem of homelessness in our community.

Community Involvement
Specify current or prior service on a City Board, Commission or Committee:

I have not served on a board yet. However, I’ve been combing through records and understanding the organizations that apply for block grants and have received them. I’ve been an active listener and participant in city council meetings, and have been listening to the Dollars allocated and projects that have been funded. I've also connected with the board liaisons to learn more about the board and the timelines for submittals. I've made time to reach out to the existing board members in order to learn more about their experiences. I’ve contacted city staff, and commission liaisons to learn more about this commission.

I’ve read past agendas in order to better understand the workings of this commission.

List Community activities in which you are involved:

I’ve worked diligently throughout the last three years, advocating and pursuing the approval of community gardens. Ensuring that outreach was representative of our Burbank population - building out websites and outreach. I've worked with both non-profits and the city in order to ensure that we keep moving the projects forward. I’ve been involved since before the contracts were signed and now I’m working on supporting Los Angeles Community Garden Council to increase committees and increase membership through intentional and thoughtful, planned canvassing. I am actively recruiting folks who will benefit from access to healthy foods and outdoor space in particular outreach to our vulnerable communities. I’m a consistent volunteer for the Little White Chapel food pantry, gathering food for their grab and go program.

I've worked with Annette, who runs the church in order to get a rotating list of folks to donate food. I contribute to the backyard fruit picking/gleaning through the backyard food growers, donating the food to both food forward and to the local food drive events. I am a family member of the YMCA and have used my membership since my son was an infant. I had a hard time moving to Burbank and meeting people initially. The Burbank YMCA provided childcare while I worked out, in a safe environment in order for me to workout and establish community connections. I teach classes throughout Burbank, helping residents grow their own produce in small spaces. Contributor to the eco-council. Helped Burbank site managers get access to seeds and distribution of management guides to better assist and build community around care for kids' garden spaces. I’m working with the parent group at Bret Harte to build out a school garden - in conjunction with the principal. I have been a consistent volunteer with Reading to Kids – reading and fundraising for Title 1 schools so that English learners can have access to books they can take home in order to increase fluency and reading comprehension. I’m involved with Families of Color Burbank, working alongside Burbank families in order to increase community-based outreach and connection with families of color.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

Technical Experience: Budget management at multiple organizations in different capacities. Procurement of software at different organizations. Non-profit and grant writing experience. Multicultural health care and analytics experience - working with high-needs and at-risk populations. Experience working with diverse teams. Excel, Tableau, ESRI and Geoscape data experience. Census experience.

Through the
non-profit, Enrich LA., I work as a garden education/outdoor education STEAM teacher for San Pascual Elementary, a Title 1 school.

Many of the students I work with live at or below the poverty line. I care deeply for those affected by poverty, and those who are often displaced due to gentrification and lack of housing. I grew up in San Bernardino, CA and am a first generation Mexican immigrant. There were many years where we struggled for food and for housing. My family of origin benefited from the kindness and generosity of others, particularly our church. Although there are social safety nets set up within our society, there are still very many needs. As a mother, I realized how challenging affordable child care is. I want all children to succeed, all children to have opportunities and accessibility to meet and exceed the gaps.

There are so many gaps and I hope that by contributing to this commission I can help support and uplift those in need. I bring my professional experience, both as an analyst and as an educator, bridging the analytical and the compassionate. I bring my lived experience, as a person who grew up below the poverty line, to a proud homeowner, American citizen and a member of the greater Burbank community.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? * Expand outreach outside of city clerk distribution list in order to expand the scope of applicants. * Begin
using map overlays to ensure that various areas of the city are served and the most highly impacted areas have coverage. * Research and canvas in order to best understand specific needs of residents - qualitative work. * Expand outreach to primarily Spanish speakers - partner with others to expand to at- risk populations who are not English dominant. * Ensure that we are representing mothers well and working with organizations that can help aid in child care needs. Making sure kids are safe while mothers are at work so they can reenter the work force.
* Partner with organizations so our city doesn't work in a silo - get support from other organizations that can help with supporting coverage.

Abstract Spatial Study
Explore relationships of space through interlocking solids and voids of specified sizes. Obey a rigid 3” grid and use no more than three 45o triangles.

I used the alloted triangles to rotate the grid that would order my volumes, and this rotation created a new spatial system f or me to explore. I arranged the solids and the voids to accentuate this fundamental alteration by developing a line of symmetry that divided the axis of rotation. I filled the leftmost solids with additional museum board to balance the cantilever.

KESTON HOUSE REMODEL
As a team of five, friends of mine and I completely gutted this Saint An- thony Park house with the intention of adequately modernizing it while attempting to preserve its modest charm. When I arrived, the interior of the house was rather derelict.

Ceilings were drooping, walls leaned, and the kitchen sink’s constant drip had been steadily gouging a whole in the floor below. Beyond that, the house needed bathrooms. After applying sheetrock to all the walls and ceilings and replacing all the finish woodwork throughout the house, we added a kitchen and three bathrooms

SKATE GARAGE
This project came out of a concern for local community, that kids are spending too much time inside. I proposed to design an appropriate ar- chitecture for adolescent leisure in the city, suggesting that this archi- tecture would integrate youths’ everyday lives into the public realm by interfacing their spaces with spaces for adult generations. The project morphed into the design of a parking garage in Uptown Minneapolis, one that concurrently offers parking and provides opportunities for ado- lescents to freestyle skate. A bike shop and a snack store were incorpo- rated to interface older generations into this adolescent realm.

MIKVEH Ritual Bath in the Jewish tradition

VARYING STATES

OF WATER

The project was proposed on the built and un-
built site of Louis Kahn ’s Jewish Community Cen-
ter in Trenton, New Jersey. The design grew
from the role of the baths and that of water as
separating out impurities. The progression
through the building spaces functions as a filter,
marking the transition from the outside world to
the place of the ritual. The three states of water
informed the qualities of these major spaces as
well as the circulation between them.
