$2,245,060 (see Attachment 3). Kalban, Inc. of Santa Clarita , California, submitted the lowest responsive and responsible bid of $1,299,500, which is within the engineer’s estimate of approximately $1.3M. Kalban, Inc. has previously performed work similar to the scope of work in this project for the City of Burbank with satisfactory results.
If approved by Council, construction is planned to start in August and expected to end in November 2022. As with all Public Works bid schedules affecting the public right-of-way, the contractor is required to coordinate with potentially affected local businesses, schools, and residents, and must provide notification in writing to them at least five working days in advance of the start of construction in each specific area.
Project plans and specifications are available for review at the Public Works Department located at 150 N. Third Street, Burbank, California and the City Council Office located in the Burbank City Hall, 275 E. Olive, Burbank, California.
Staff conducted an initial environmental review and recommends City Council find that this project is Categorically Exempt under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and CEQA Guidelines Section 15301(c), which exempts maintenance activities involving existing streets and highways.
FISCAL IMPACT
The projected construction cost for this project (construction bid plus 15% contingency) is $1,494,425. Sufficient funds are available in the following project accounts:
• 108.PW21A.70002.0000.24186 (Measure M, Street Design & Construction Improvements – FY 21-22 Sidewalk Rehab)
• 534.PW21A.70002.0000.24186 (Measure P , Street Design & Construction Improvements – FY 21-22 Sidewalk Rehab)
CONCLUSION
Staff respectfully recommends that Council adopt the proposed resolution to approve the contract documents and award a construction contract to Kalban, Inc. for Bid Schedule No. 1503 – Annual Sidewalk Repair Project (Zones 5 – 8).
