SUBJECT: Continuation of Discussion of Roles and Duties of the Police Commission
RECOMMENDATION
1. Note and File.
2. Provide direction, if any, to staff and/or the Police Commission regarding Council’s expectations of the roles, duties, responsibilities, and/or assignments for the Police Commission.
BACKGROUND
At the September 13, 2022, City Council meeting the Council participated in a discussion regarding providing direction for the Police Commission (Attachment 1).
DISCUSSION
Council’s discussion included a review of the Police Commission’s annual agenda calendar (Attachment 2) and the need to provide future direction to the Commission in its capacity as an advi sory body to Council. This direction may include the Commission advising Council when an action needs to be taken or when a policy may need to be reviewed or discussed, in addition to any specific topics identified by the Council for the Commission’s review.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this report.
CONCLUSION
This report is to provide Council the opportunity to continue the discussion regarding the roles and responsibilities for the Police Commission. Staff recommends Council to note POLICE
DEPARTMENT
2 and file this report and to provide direction to staff and/or the Commission, if any, regarding Council’s expected roles, duties, responsibilities and/or assignments for the Police Commission.
