Interests & Experiences
Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I was brought up to believe that active participation in government is an important duty that coincides with the privilege of living in a democracy. I have been active and vocal in Burbank government since I was involved in an appeal in 2018. Since that time, I have been deeply concerned about matters related to water use, residential housing, property rights, state oversight, and the suppression of freedoms for taxpayers to locally govern themselves. I feel satisfied that the Council has recently enacted a number of changes including DIF updates and zoning ordinances. There are other goals that are still unrealized and some I think I share with many in the community as well as Council to maintain and improve the City as a great place to call home in Southern California. As I mentioned when I last applied to a different commission: I have frequently requested service from our elected officials and staff, and I'd like to volunteer to serve others in a similar way.

Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
I have spent time participating in various hearings on different sorts of matters in Burbank government.

I
have a basic understanding of City procedures and legal process that stems from these involvements.

I
enjoy examining and questioning various policy initiatives and directives to gain a better understanding and, if possible, find more equitable solutions to problems.

I endeavor to do this in as courteous a fashion
as possible even when I feel criticism is warranted.

I am mindful that civility is frequently lacking in many areas of public discourse.

FIRST choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Partial / unexpired term:

Planning Board
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

I have been through the planning and building process for a full remodel of our home, as well as built a pool and outdoor renovation.

In the course of the outdoor work, I replaced 60 percent of the grass on the property, installed drip irrigation to all areas (except remaining grass).

I have been an appellant in a
Planning Board appeal and have participated on behalf of other appellants in certain situations.

I believe I
have a significantly deeper familiarity with the residential building code.

I have also been the subject of
numerous false enforcement reports both openly and anonymously against my property and made either
my wife's or my own name against people we don't know.

It would be nice to reform our enforcement in
some meaningful way to discourage false complaints.

Mr. Simon Ehrlich Hammel
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? I have been active in protecting our residential building code.

I have come to believe it is one of the things
that has kept Burbank different from other cities that have grown without regard to what some call the peaceful enjoyment of one’s home, and without making proper investments in infrastructure over time.

Though I am skeptical of some of the recent changes in our zoning code, I am keeping an open mind to the benefits that were sought with the change, and would like to be a part of the Planning Board when the “look back” review is agenized in about a year.

I have concerns that some
of our building ordinances and
regulations do not coincide with goals regarding energy conservation, overall carbon-footprint, and that in some cases state building mandates as well as certain regulations, may actually degrade both the long- term health of the environment as well as the overall quality of life in our City.

I would like to find ways to
encourage building design that takes advantage of materials, shade, and functionality that would naturally facilitate a lower use of energy and water without a quality-of-life trade-off.

I share a recognition that
housing pricing is a serious concern in modern times.

I strongly believe that owning any sort of housing
property greatly increases a person's or family’s bond to their community by upping their stake in the long- term sustainability and quality of life within the City.

Though there are many things I do not believe we can
affect at a local level, especially not related to the physical buildings themselves – there are some policy changes I believe the City can make and should make where ownership is involved.

Most notably to offer
something of significant value to builders who offer deed restricted/ fixed price units (probably to rent) in mixed use buildings where people can buy the condos and possibly also rent out some of the units.

Most
notably, I would like to a policy that when a certain number (above state minimum) of these units are either rented or sold at the so-called affordable value that City offer a fist in/ first out jump the line for all review and plan check (at every phase) as well as the already discussed discount on DIF as an incentive.

Time is exceptionally valuable in building, accelerating each phase of construction and realizing profit faster is truly something of value this City could offer.

Saving three or more months on a project, from my
experience, is an exceptional value.

Other areas of focus for me would be:

Requiring our staff to disclose
the expected/ projected water use per project represented in gallons per month to allow residents an easier and more straightforward understanding of water demand and use.

I would also like to see data
available one year after occupancy for the three
largest residential projects permitted each year so that we can generate data that we can use locally and statewide to know if public water policy is being undertaken in a responsible way.

I would like to review our public property, including street tree policies as they relate to residential building projects in the City.

During a project across the street from me a healthy 70 year old palm was taken down and the issue remains open insomuch as it appears that nothing was done to keep such an occurrence from happening again.

The street trees are all environmentally and commercially valuable and should be preserved or immediately replaced when a private builder wishes to demolish City
of Burbank property.

Finally,
I am interested in seeing Burbank continue to be a place where people want to come to do business.

Keeping prices low certainly does not negatively impact housing affordability.

On
my list of reasons for moving here was the ease of getting a business permit, and I’d like to make sure that
opportunity stays available for others looking to move to Southern California.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I THOUGHT I'd travel after retiring from LAUSD (6/19) but the world stopped. I spent all my days happily sewing cloth masks for a local non-profit and then THAT stopped with the cessation of the mask mandate.

I've lived here since 2011 & have always been civic/politically minded & now that I have more time, would love to be more involved in my adopted city. Serving on a Board/Commission seems the most appropriate for me who has never thought about elected office!

Other than having lived in various big cities as an adult, I have no technical/professional background per se.

I have a serious post-graduate education and certainly possess critical thinking skills.

I am a positive
person--I have to confess that my usual "interaction" with Burbank "entities" is usually to call and notify same of a problem (street lighting, holes in streets, etc), and I am ALWAYS quick to call back a supervisor to relate the quick response and my pleasure therefrom! What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Frankly, my goals are rather selfish--probably everyone is going to write "they're a good worker, etc. etc." Now retired and after a decade here, I would like to become INVOLVED and feel more connected.

I was
always involved with SOMETHING whilst still in LA and that's been a void in my life here.

I would like to be
able to be involved in the "innards" of planning the future of this city.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? It is my goal to continue serving my community as I did when I was active with the city of El Cajon. There, I served on the mayor’s advisory committee, was a board member with the chamber of commerce, the Boys and Girls Club, and others. I am the owner of Yimbyadu, Inc. a company that provides Accessory Dwelling Units throughout southern California. My wife and I are currently building one in our backyard for my father-in-law. In addition, I also have a property development company, David Donahue Investments, Inc., which was formed to provide affordable, factory-built housing, which is the industry I have been working in for over 20 years. I am an active member of the Casita Coalition, a California based non-profit whose mission is to make building an ADU easier by creating statewide policies and removing barriers.

The process of building an ADU is very complex and there are hundreds of details that need to be studied and considered. To help homeowners, I host an ongoing series of free webinars called “Ask A Pro” which dives into various topics to provide helpful advice to those looking to build an ADU. As an example, knowing the difference of whether the construction complies with the CBC/Title 24, manufactured/Title 25, or the RV/ANSI codes is but one critical consideration, and often overlooked. I was a member of the Occupational Licensing Program Focus Group in 2019. A consulting company, CPS HR Consulting, was hired by the House & Community Development (HCD) to: • Review the job responsibilities of Manufactured Home (MH) and Commercial Modular (CM) Dealers and Salespersons. • Document the important and critical tasks associated with the job duties of MH and CM Dealers and Salespersons. • Identify the knowledge and skills necessary for performing the job duties of MH and CM Dealers and Salespersons. • Complete linkage exercise to develop exam plans for the Salesperson and Dealer occupational license exams. • Develop Competency Profiles (MAC profile) to define behaviors associated with doing the job duties of MH and CM Dealers and Salespersons effectively. Currently I am on the board of directors of Vision Burbank and am the Vice President elect.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I have been a resident in Burbank for 13 years knowing that Burbank is a city like no other. As I grew older attending college, I became increasingly passionate about Burbank's community, architecture, and industry. I intend to join and support the planning board committee members in order to preserve and improve these aspects previously mentioned. My genuine passion arises from the growth that Burbank has gone through, hearing stories of its development through older generations and myself noticing changes as well only furthered the closeness I feel living here. One aspect is environmental developments which is important when one acknowledges the challenges of the future, and I see myself most interested within that realm. Furthermore, I harbor interest within the topics of city planning such as; zoning, traffic flow, and factors which impact industry, as well as quality of life for residential sectors. I believe these genuine interests drive my choice for applying to this board and I intend to further blossom my passions through this fruitful opportunity.

I am also very fond about city planning concepts such as zoning and traffic flow, including ways that cities manage these issues. In addition, I am eager to learn more about environmental crises such as climate change, deforestation, pollution and love to research ways that we can solve current affairs. Finally, another passionate topic I have been exposed to is the steady increase of homelessness and am very much inquisitive with regards to finding solutions for it.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

My internship in Adventist Health Glendale consisted of positions in numerous departments. These departments being accreditation, infection prevention, marketing and business administration all saw a plethora of duties utilizing thorough alignment within hospital codes and regulations. Consisting of managing patient case files, incident reports, hospital wide rounding/regulatory checks, marketing strategies, data analysis, and even presentations during meetings. Furthermore, at Primex Clinical Laboratories Inc., my knowledge expanded through managing online systems, interfaces and inventory management which were cornerstones to provide the service necessary for company's assets, clientele, and patients alike. Finally, my employment at Metro Home Care Inc. gave me experience with working in similar conditions akin to Adventist. I supported the administrative team in managing patient files, case reports, and other confidential duties. My time at Adventist Health Glendale, Primex Clinical Laboratories Inc., and Metro Home Care Inc. both coincided with the previously mentioned confinement within regulatory work. Thus preparing me for duties which demanded a steady balance of versatility, vigilance, and regulation adherence, similar to that of a planning board which must abide by extensive regulations as well.

Narbe Khodadadian
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My primary goal is to tackle issues such as homelessness, affordable housing, traffic flow, environmental preservation, and industry growth. I intend to support these endeavors by supporting innovation within development by coordinating federal, state and local housing resources to eliminate housing problems.

Next, to preserve the environment I wish to seek more friendly methods of energy production as well as cutting down energy consumption. Finally, I wish to participate in the process where the city of Burbank can partner with other cities and industries to resolve homelessness and seek environmentally friendly ways to produce energy.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I have been fascinated with civic planning ever since I was a kid playing Sim City. While my career took a notably different turn, I've never stopped thinking about how cities and towns are planned, laid out, and create plans for growth and sustainability. Now that I'm a little older, I want to actually have a say in my local government, and help create both long and short term goals for the place where I live to move into the future in an equitable and healthy manner. Especially now that we are homeowners, I feel a responsibility to engage in the civic process to make my home into a better version of itself. By serving on the Transportation Commission I feel that I could satisfy that responsibility, while at the same time doing something I'm very interested in.

In a production manager role, it is extremely important to have logistics, travel, and communication skills while managing the transportation of multiple busses of people, as well as over 15 tractor trailers worth of equipment. I am a big fan of going to the movies, and am adamantly unashamed to admit I love the quirky presence of 3 AMC theaters in downtown.

Yes No
Mr James Ingram

If you answer yes, explain in detail any potential conflicts in the same manner as required by the Fair Political Practices Commission’s Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). (If
you should have any questions about this matter or need further information as it relates to your situation, please advise the City Clerk prior to submitting your application.) AB 1234 Training
The Board, Commission or Committee (collectively Board) you are seeking appointment to provides City reimbursement for attending trainings or conferences. Therefore, under State Law all members of the Board must receive at least two hours of ethic’s training, as prescribed by the Fair Political Practices Commission, within one year of appointment and once every two years thereafter.

First Choice
FIRST choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Transportation Commission
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

After working in the music touring world for over 10 years, I am intimately familiar with how integral our transportation network is. Coordinating efficient and timely travel for equipment and personnel is integral to doing the job. Additionally, I have extensive experience working and traveling in other countries, and utilizing the transportation networks in them. This has given me firsthand experience in how local transportation networks around the world affect the cities and towns they are in. From London Heathrow's placement incredibly far outside the city, to crossing the Atlantic on both ships and boats (a great difference!), to navigating Italian cities that were planned thousands of years ago in semis, and navigating a subway with a literal 100% language barrier in Shanghai, I have lived and worked in the environments in which various transport grids exist. Knowing and interacting with the people who use these networks gives me a lot of insight into how planning affects people and cities.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? In a self contained city such as Burbank, it is integral to create opportunities for people of all socioeconomic standing to own homes and have good paying jobs. That being said, my primary goal in serving on the Transportation Commission is to ensure that Burbank's transportation planning has a consistent vision for the future to do just that. With limited space, and a growing population, it is more critical than ever to ensure that Burbank adopt transportation policies that include equitable thinking for not only vehicle owners, but also residents who rely on public transit. I would like to see Burbank adopt pedestrian friendly policies to make streets safer for all our residents, as well as increase the efficiency of our neighborhoods to create more jobs, more homes, and more environmentally conscious spaces in our city. Transportation policies can shape the entire nature of a city, and I hope by reforming Burbank's vision, the Transportation Commission can truly help turn Burbank into a regional leader for affordable homes, equitable public transit, and create many more jobs for our residents.

Second Choice

SECOND choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Planning Board
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position I'll be honest, I probably don't have the qualifications on paper that would impress anyone. I'm just a guy who makes music, and also wants to make my home a better, more equitable place for people to live.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? I would like to guide Burbank's public policy towards the promotion of green energy, waste reduction, and an overall decrease in automobile reliance. I also would like to push Burbank's policies to become more progressive towards affordable home ownership issues. I don't have any conflicts of interest, or any vested financial interests in joining this board.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Find ways to help streamline processes for the general public and make them easily understandable to navigate through.

I'd like to see the city of Burbank continue to add more housing, but want to make sure it fits in the areas that will be built in, to make sure traffic isn't negatively affected.

My educational background is in Urban Planning with an emphasis in community services and administration. I bring a perspective as someone with a background in planning who understands the process from a municipal perspective as well as a resident who been involved with the community.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Burbank is a dynamic city with an extremely diverse population and very unique neighborhoods. While each neighborhood has their character and individual needs, we are one city and one community as a whole. I strongly believe that anyone who appears before the planning board deserves to be listened to and be heard in an open and transparent way.

We have many new laws that are quickly changing and
impact our city directly and it is imperative that we try to balance the scale as much as possible while still following the lawful guidelines set forth by the state. This will be a challenging time and we need sensible people on the planning board who will look at each issue with an unbiased viewpoint.

Summary of Strengths
Creative, dedicated, and experienced at guiding projects from concept to completion. I excel at working within constraints set by technology, business, or societal considerations and achieving the greatest possible outcomes. I have been both the creator of original concepts as well as the steward of other people’s ideas, and in both scenarios, I have relentlessly pursued the best possible strategies as a leader and team player to deliver projects on time, on message, and within budget.

After more than 18 years in the entertainment industry as a writer and producer I took a leap and opened a bakery that I owned and operated for another 18 years. Having sold my bakery, I’m now seeking to bring my non-traditional background and out of the box thinking to a new company.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I am very passionate about working to stop climate change, and transportation is one of the main drivers of that. This means that we need to work quickly in order to revamp how we get around our communities instead of just continuing with the “business as usual” which got us into this situation. As someone who regularly uses statistics in my 9-5 job, I believe that I am exceptionally well equipped in order to understand the data behind transportation. This will help me see through the numbers and gain an understanding of what types of transportation methods are needed in which locations. A large part of my job is also person-centric. So I believe that I will be able to talk to people in a way that cuts straight to the emotional reason why they do or don’t support certain projects. Once we understand that, we can address it and move forward with something that the community will truly treasure.

Interests & Experiences
Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I’m the daughter of a Mexican immigrant who grew up in the Bay area and I’ve chosen to make Burbank my permanent home - I am committed to making it as livable as possible for those who live, work, and play here. My lifelong experiences with disparities in access to safe transportation and a career in transportation equity fuel my desire to serve Burbank in this way. For a decade I lived in the working class Latino immigrant neighborhood where my mom grew up, which had the highest rates of childhood obesity in the state yet no bike lanes and broken sidewalks - surrounded by factories that forced us to breathe polluted air; a daily reminder of the intersectional barriers our communities face to living healthy lives and having walkable neighborhoods. I want to serve because I believe I can improve transportation for everyone in Burbank whether they are walking with their kids to school, biking to the farmer’s market, or commuting to work at the studios.

I organized riders in California against anti-environmental mobility legislation. Working with environmental equity groups I ran a dozen campaigns around creating safer streets for all and other initiatives at a time ensuring each were sensitive to the unique political climate in every market.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? TV & Film connoisseurs around the world know about Burbank - we are the Media Capital of the World for a reason, that, as you know, we're the best at making fantasy worlds and stories come to life. Some of these stories take place in worlds where you'd want to spend time yourself, like the fantasy world of Harry Potter, for instance. And its Diagon Alley pedestrian-only shopping street, full of people and excitement and more than a little mystery. While we’re excellent at creating fantasy worlds in which our characters live, we are not often as great at creating a city in which real people can find accessibility, community, safety, and vibrance. I love living in Burbank for its people, its culture, the opportunities this city provides, and so much more. But access, safety, and convenience for cyclists and pedestrians in this city is not something I'm able yet to love. Burbank is made for transit by car and our infrastructure caters to drivers.

This makes for a more sterile city where the livability and mystery have been in many ways removed and replaced by multi-lane thoroughfares. Burbank is fantastic - but improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure would make it so much better. And I'm sure many experience similar feelings. Imagine for a John "Brooks" Pipher

moment please a fictional young Burbank resident named Karla. Karla is a single mother who is new to the city and she has landed a great job in animation at a studio. She's excited to be making $75,000 annually and she has just rented a small but nice apartment near the intersection of Magnolia and Sixth.

Karla is hoping to save up to one day buy a townhome, condo, or small house in Burbank. So she's frugal.

At the grocery store, she buys what's on sale. When furnishing at North America's largest Ikea, she buys only what's needed for her and her child, nothing more. In the city Karla moved from, she did not need to own a car because of a robust public transportation system and streets that are safe for walking and cycling. She assumes that the same will be true in Burbank.

Leading up to the first day at her child's new
school, Karla checks the options for taking a Burbank Bus, but the times and stops don't make sense for her and her child to get to school and then to work. Since she and her child both have bicycles, she looks at an online map for the best route to the school. But she finds that bicycle riders in Burbank share the road with drivers, and some of the vehicles she's seen drive by on Magnolia are big pickup trucks. It doesn't seem like a safe option for her child to ride a bicycle to school, so she decides that walking will be the best option. But she's apprehensive at the amount of time that walking her child to and from school will take each day.

The first day of school comes and the walk takes twenty minutes each way, but is relatively uneventful - and now she has the rest of the day to run errands, go grocery shopping, and to ride a bicycle to the studio where she'll begin work tomorrow to find out the best route and how long it'll take to go there and back.

Karla brings her bicycle out of her apartment and heads to her first errand, the Burbank Police Station on Third, where she hopes to ask a police officer about local parks for her child to meet friends. Karla quickly discovers that she cannot find a designated place to lock up a bicycle at the station. It's likely, she realizes, that the Burbank Police Station has no bicycle rack or parking. Karla cannot leave her bicycle outside unlocked. So she decides to skip that stop and to ride to the studio instead.

The map application on her phone says that the best bike route to the studio is to take Magnolia and to cross over the Magnolia bridge. Karla hopes that there's a separated bicycle lane for her safety when going over the bridge, but there's not. She feels unsafe riding down Magnolia while approaching the bridge, but hits the bridge with some speed so it won't be long before she makes it to the top and can begin to descend. Karla is riding to the right of the right lane when she hears a rumbling behind her.

Looking back, it's a large pickup truck coming up the bridge fast and it seems like the driver wants to share the right lane with Karla. But there's not enough room for both of them in the lane! Karla swerves into the middle of the right lane to prevent the truck from coming in the same lane next to her and squeezing her into the curb. She's going fast for an uphill climb, about 12 miles per hour. But that's not fast enough for the truck driver, who comes up to what seems like mere inches behind Karla and the driver begins to lay on the horn, scaring Karla and nearly making her fall. There's no vehicle in the passing lane, so the truck can easily go around, but the truck decides not to pass. Because there's no designated bicycle lane, the truck driver seems to think that Karla is riding in a place she shouldn't be.

Thankfully though, the honking stops.

Now they're descending down Magnolia, Karla ahead of the truck.

One little slowdown on the bike, and Karla will be crushed by the truck. But at the bottom of the bridge, the truck zooms around Karla by taking the passing lane. At the light at Magnolia and Victory, Karla passes the truck which has been caught in a long line of cars waiting at the light. Karla did not slow the truck down one bit, as the red light had stopped many vehicles ahead of the truck.

Karla is sweating from
fear as she arrives to the front entrance of the studio. She's grateful for the new law requiring vehicles to give a full lane when passing cyclists, but she hasn't seen any signage to educate drivers about this upcoming rule. There were no protected bicycle lanes on her way to the studio; only thin lines of paint separating her from a hundred passing multi-thousand pound vehicles. She's glad to have survived this first ride to the studio, but she has no idea how she'll make it home, and, thinking of her child, she cannot imagine doing this same ride every day, knowing that each day would be just as dangerous for her as this first ride, especially on the bridges.

Consulting her phone, Karla looks for alternate routes home. She sees that the Burbank Boulevard Bridge is newly constructed and she sees bike lanes in the satellite view. What Karla doesn't know is that those lanes end mid-way over the bridge. Karla is soon thrown out in the midst of a hundred cars all going fast and trying to get on I-5. She's like a single Rice Krispy and the cars are a hundred teeth. It's all she can do to fight with every breath to pedal as hard as she can to make it to the other side of the bridge. The car horns and close calls keep coming rapidly from every angle.

Karla is now exhausted but alive. Looking at the time, she knows her child's school will be let out before too long and she wants to be there for the walk home. Karla consults her phone for pedestrian-friendly markets to pick up some lunch and groceries, but even San Fernando is full of cars. Suddenly her new city feels very lonely. Karla is trapped. There is almost no place she can go as an adult cyclist without battling cars for her survival, and there's certainly no place that she and her child can ride together. Even the Chandler Boulevard path, which she had read about online before moving, is totally inaccessible to her Rev. John "Brooks" Pipher
family because it would require a car for her and her child to cross to that side of town without relying on the bus schedule. A new city that should feel alive and vibrant feels in that moment instead to be totally dead. Karla hasn't seen any friendly faces on her ride. Everyone is behind tinted glass, driving their cars.

Karla arrives now to Sprouts. There's no bicycle rack, but she chains her bicycle out front where the shopping carts are stored. Walking around the store, she feels dazed. And she knows that now there's a major decision for her now to make. Karla considers leasing or buying a car. She saw a nice looking vehicle advertised for sale for $30,000 earlier that day. But she thinks of her salary. A $30,000 car on a salary of $75,000, that's a significant portion of what she makes in a year. And then she'll need to add insurance fees, registration fees, and gas. Her dream of owning a home in Burbank is now further away because of these potential added expenses. And suddenly her frugality at the grocery store seems a little silly. What's the point of saving a couple of dollars here and there to invest in her savings if her city hasn't invested in the health and safety of people like her and her child and she's required to make a major vehicle purchase to simply move around town? Or Karla will make a decision to move out of Burbank.

She'll move to somewhere where she'll earn less salary, but will not need a car, and she'll be safe on her bicycle. Not owning a car makes up for the salary difference anyway.

The fictional story of Karla ends
then at a crossroads.

I am sure that there are many real Karlas in our great city of Burbank. They would use alternate transportation options if they were available. But the safety risks make active transportation modes of travel not worth trying. And I'm sure that there are many who would love to move to Burbank, but the city is largely closed off to those who do not own or cannot drive cars.

My name is John "Brooks"
Pipher. I'm proud to live in the City of Burbank. My wife and I recently purchased a condo/townhome near the intersection of Angeleno and Sixth. I work as an executive at L.A. Castle Studios, at the intersection of Olive and Victory. I'm also a pastor and I'm working on starting a new Presbyterian church in Burbank that's called Covenant.

I try to make every trip that I take in the city of Burbank by walking or by bicycle. I do own a car - but for the health of my city and my neighbor, and my own health, I make an effort to use that car as little as possible. Regarding a possible place on the Transportation Commission, I know what it's like to live in Burbank and to have a bicycle commute in Burbank. I know the places that are particularly dangerous and where even small changes could make a great improvement in quality of life for me and I'm sure many others as well.

I talk frequently about commuting by bicycle with people who live and or work in Burbank and I'm saddened to hear so often that the danger prevents people from choosing an alternative to the car. The City of Burbank, sadly, does often feel somewhat dead to me, because I simply cannot travel here in a way that seems safe. So there are trips that I choose not to take. It's confining.

I hope to serve on the transportation commission in order to recommend to City Council practical ideas that would improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. My focus would be on those who would choose to or simply need to walk or take a bicycle to run errands, go to school, and to go to work.

Increasing the number of pedestrians in the city adds vibrance to the city. It's a wonderful feeling to be on a busy street full of people with opportunities for smiling and talking, meeting together, and making new friends. Reducing the number of able-bodied people in cars also frees up traffic and parking spots for those whose disabilities necessitate the use of a personal vehicle.

I very much appreciate your
consideration of this application. Thank you!
