SUBJECT: Approval of an Increase in the City Attorney’s Compensation to the Top Step of Burbank’s Existing City Attorney Salary Range, Placing the City Attorney’s Pay at the Average of Burbank’s Relevant Market for City Attorneys
RECOMMENDATION
Approve an increase in the City Attorney’s compensation to the top step of Burbank’s existing City Attorney salary range, placing the City Attorney’s pay at the average of Burbank’s relevant market for City Attorneys.
BACKGROUND
The City Council entered into an employment agreement with Joe McDougall to serve as the Burbank City Attorney beginning on November 13, 2021. The agreement set Mr.
McDougall’s initial salary at $22,500 per month ($10,384.62 per biweekly pay period).
The agreement also provides, in part, that “any future salary range adjustments and increases in salary within the range shall be at the sole and absolute discretion of the City Council….”
DISCUSSION
The current range for the title of City Attorney is $18,589.85 to $24,445.66 per month ($8,579.93 to $11,282.61 per biweekly pay period). Placing Mr. McDougal l at the top of the current range would bring his salary in line with the average of City Attorney salaries in Burbank’s relevant market.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this item as sufficient salary dollars are included in the City Attorney’s Office’s FY 22/23 budget.
