Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I have lived in Burbank since 2005, and have gotten involved when and where I can. After serving on the Burbank Arts For All foundation for a decade, it was time to let new faces and voices lead the charge in the next iteration of leadership for our schools. I've been waiting for the right opportunity to participate in the life of our community and currently serve as VP, Communications for the PTSA at John Burroughs High School, where I have a 10th grader (and a current 8th grader at Luther who will attend next year). As a avid reader and lifelong learner, I just happen to love libraries. I maintain a little library in my front yard that receives quite a bit of foot traffic due to the business next door. It was incredibly rewarding to have that space during the pandemic when I could barely keep it stocked! I love our libraries and went often when my kiddos were younger, and value them as a communal gathering space that can serve many needs within the community. I follow the Library Foundation of LA, and have taken note of their engagement opportunities and programs like Young Literati. Libraries are one of my happy places and it would be an honor to serve within our community to keep them strong and sustainable and relevant--a place for people of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, interests, and needs.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Central Library welcomed me to this fantastic city upon my family's arrival 13 years ago. In fact, I felt like I belonged the first time I walked through its doors. From the weekly children's story times to the fun banter at the checkout desk, there was always a kind face, a good time, and a great book whenever we went to the library. It's been 12 years and some faces have changed, however, the sense of belonging and community has not. I would love to help our libraries continue to be a place for our community to come together. As a parent of 2 amazing BUSD students, an educator, and an avid reader, I believe I would make a great fit with the Library Board of Trustees. I know the importance of literacy in children and how libraries are vital to supporting families in promoting literacy. Serving on the Board is a way for me to give back to the Library System as it continues to give to me and my family.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I'll be transferring from community college next year and in the time I have left in Burbank, I want to help serve the community which has given me so much. I grew up in a city that I knew always had my best interest at heart and I want to play a role in that form of principled and thoughtful governance. As a board member, I can offer my experience as a young person growing up in SoCal and help shape future plans to better align with the bold new vision for Burbank, so many of us share. My views on all matters I'd be asked to advise on stem from my categorical disagreement with a line from Thoreau, President Reagan often invoked. "That government is best which governs least". A government is not measured by how much or how little it governs, but by effectively it does so. As a board member, my promise to you and to the community is to leave no stone unturned, no question unanswered. Due diligence is the bare minimum and peak efficiency is the requirement. Those are my principles and my driving reasons to ask for this opportunity to serve.

Education

First Choice
FIRST choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Infrastructure Oversight
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.

As mentioned above, at my nonprofit I lead my team in ongoing research efforts exploring issues of public policy, primarily in infrastructure and development. This has made me a bit of an "armchair expert" in subjects like planning, zoning, traffic flow, walkability, density, and transit-oriented development.

I'm no
true expert, but my enthusiasm for these subjects has driven me to learn as much as I can, short of getting a degree. This gives me a solid basis from which to serve on the IOB and help with the Library Board's work on the new Central branch design phase.

Andre O Dionysian
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Our city-owned properties are the tip of the spear when it comes to modeling the kind of city we want Burbank to be. These buildings, parks, and roads are the crown jewels of the city. By helping mold them into welcoming environments that are accessible, sustainable, and inviting I would like to help set the gold standard for private developers to follow. Where we can, we need to include intelligent applications of density, while preserving Burbank's welcoming nature. New developments must be transit-oriented when at all possible. This includes all tiers from intercity to last mile. Bike lanes, busses, and everything in between all work together to cover the whole map, and truly free pedestrians from their cars. And community spaces need to serve everyone. The ADA is the bottom line, but we can go so far above and beyond.

Second Choice
SECOND choice for Board/Commission/Committee appointment:

Library Board
Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position I grew up with libraries. When I was a kid, I'd spend every weekday wandering through the shelves and taking a peek into the thousands of worlds sealed in binding. To this day I have a love of reading, it allows me context to my studies when I can crack open a book and read exactly what people long dead thought and did in their own words.

But times change, and as a public service so must the library. BPL has taken many steps in the past to modernize, but we can do more. We need to double down on expanding digital offerings, including onsite computing resources from this decade, not the one prior.

And the physical
space too must adapt to modern uses, like free group study spaces enabled with modern technology.

What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? The library of tomorrow must be not just an archive but a living institution that serves as a multitool. My hope is to reinvigorate the library's offerings to ensure it survives for more than just the next generation but for the next hundred.

I have followed several projects through their processes and learned from the system. My nonprofit did a deep dive into housing, which involved us collectively reading through hundreds of pages of development filings. I'm confident with my experience with the system and its processes.

I don't have any specific qualifications or experience other than a love of books and learning and I believe libraries are fundamental to the growth of a community.

Education
NAF Engineering Acadamy at Burbank High School 2017-2021 Currently, I'm an Economics Major at Pasadena City College
Additional Pertinent Courses or Training
I used to be S/P2 Construction Certified, which gave me a better understanding of construction/development/regulatory processes.

Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
I run a local nonprofit working to get young people involved in government and public service. This has given me extensive experience in teamwork and relationship building.

Supplemental Questions
Question applies to
Infrastructure Oversight Board
Please list your experience, knowledge and/or expertise with City infrastructure and affiliated processes and procedures for projects (both major and routine/regular) and maintenance.

I have followed several projects through their processes and learned from the system. My nonprofit did a deep dive into housing, which involved us collectively reading through hundreds of pages of development filings. I'm confident with my experience with the system and its processes.
