Burbank City Council Members:

The City Council meeting tonight will have a builder requesting a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The builder wants higher ceilings than allowed by building code. Extra high ceilings do not contribute to the stability of a structure. High ceilings make a house “feel” more spacious. It makes small rooms feel bigger.

However, people can place humans and furniture only on the floor – the square footage.

High ceilings will not accommodate anything necessary for human habitation.

Therefore, I urge City Council Members to deny the CUP. This request by the builder shows lack of consideration for neighbors, for no reason other than optical illusion.

Many people prefer Burbank over surrounding cities because of our sense of community. Everyone must be considerate of one’s neighbors, if we are to maintain that sense of community.

I voted for some of you, with the simple hope that you will enforce building codes – not make excuses for circumventing them.

The high ceilings will accomplish nothing other than making the house look like a Mafia compound.

Any considerate builder will consider his neighbors. It is unreasonable to allow a builder to get around a building code to permanently inconvenience his neighbors (presumably, this is a permanent building).

I urge City Council Members to deny the CUP. There is no point in funding our Community Development Department if it grants builders anything they request.

I ask that you firmly request the developer to follow the current building code.

He already is very privileged to be able to build in Burbank.
