PROGRAM SUMMARY:
When the pandemic hit and schools were forced to shut down, the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank and GEV decided to keep our doors open at the Main Club. We felt this was essential to youth who needed a place to go for homework help or those who needed the infrastructure for learning, such as stable internet, quiet space, etc. We had many middle school students attending our program at our Main Club facility as they already knew and trusted the staff and to them, it felt like a second home. During this time, we were providing all day enriching care, and offering CORE BGCA programs. One program to highlight is Young Producers Group, a digital music production program. This program was introduced to teens through the Club's partnership with Katy Perry's Camp Firework Foundation. YPG created a safe and creative space for teens to express themselves through music and creative writing.
In early spring of 2021, we were able to administer our annual National Youth Initiative Survey (NYOI) to 25 teen members attending the main club house. Considering we were in a pandemic, we were pleased to see how well our program made a positive impact to our youth. Below are a few results highlighting the four focus areas of impact:
Club Experience
• 89% agreed the Club is Fun, and provided a Sense of Belonging • 95% agreed the Club provided a Safe and Positive Environment • 100% agreed teens felt Emotionally Safe while at the Club Academic Success
• 91% of teens expect to graduate from high school
• 75% of teens believe they will attend college
Good Character and Citizenship
• 76% agreed they can make a difference in their community • 87% participated in Club Based Service activities within the duration of the 20-21 school year:
Healthy Lifestyles
• 57% physically active for a total of at least 60 minutes on 5 or more days • 81% consume 3-5 or more fruit and vegetables per day
In April of 2021, the Club was able to transition from all day care to afterschool enrichment programming at all three middle school locations. Immediately programs resumed. Power Hour, Sports and Recreation Activities, Torch Club (middle School leadership program, Creative Arts and STEM were offered to teens attending BGC.
The funds we receive from the Youth Task Force allow us to keep our fees low so parents can make an easy choice to sign their child up for our program without it being a financial burden. As always, we never turn a child away for an inability to pay and we have offered over $18K of dollars in Financial Aid to Middle School families in just the past 3 years. Our Middle School Programs run at a deficit but with the help of the Youth Task Force Funds, we are able to continue our good work at the Middle Schools.

PROGRAM SUMMARY:
In FY22, when students went back to school, BGCB was there to provide after school programming and be back on campus for families and students who needed a place to go afterschool. Although this was challenging with all the health requirements, we ensured safety was our number one goal and made sure we were complying with local mandates of masking and social distancing. However, we still made sure the kids were being supported and having fun.
A few programs to highlight that made a great impression within our teen population are Kollab Youth and Empowered Voices.
Kollab Youth is a workforce development program that helps teens explore career opportunities in business and STEM. This year, teens engaged with career professionals, received mentoring opportunities, attended BGC Burbank's annual Career Fair. In addition to the workforce programs, the Club also provided a social emotional learning program called Empowered Voices. For an entire year, teens engaged in various learning modules regarding self-care, sustainability, healing and how to embrace diversity, empathy and connectedness.
In early spring of 2022, we were able to administer our annual National Youth Initiative Survey (NYOI) to 131 teen members. Below are a few results highlighting the four focus areas of impact:
Club Experience
• 81% agreed the Club is Fun, and provided a Sense of Belonging • 92% agreed the Club provided a Safe and Positive Environment • 94% agreed teens felt Emotionally Safe while at the Club Academic Success
• 100% of teens expect to graduate from high school
• 83% of teens believe they will attend college
Good Character and Citizenship
• 75% agreed they can make a difference in their community • 60% participated in Club Based Service activities within the duration of the 21-22 school year:
Healthy Lifestyles
• 92% in their lifetime abstained from Cigarette use
• 86% in their lifetime abstained from Alcohol use
• 94% in their lifetime abstained from Marijuana use
The funds we receive from the Youth Task Force allow us to keep our fees low so parents can make an easy choice to sign their child up for our program without it being a financial burden. As always, we never turn a child away for an inability to pay and we have offered over $18K of dollars in Financial Aid to Middle School families in just the past 3 years. PROGRAM SUMMARY:
FY23 is when we saw membership increase to almost pre pandemic days. The fear of Covid lessened and families were ready to return to normal life and have their youth engaged in an after school program that provided enrichment.
In early spring of 2023, we were able to administer our annual National Youth Initiative Survey (NYOl) to over 150 teens. Survey results are pending and expected to be available in May 2023.
A few highlights for 2023, the Club has seen an increase in overall average daily attendance across all three middle schools; 170 teens attending daily and growing. Additionally, the Club was able to purchase 36 laptops for programing. Teens are now able to program their Robots onsite, participate in BGCA Digital programs such as Coding, App and Game design, etc.
Laptops are also available for teens to use for homework and research. We wouldn't be a BGC Club without offering programs in Performing Arts. Teens are actively engaging in Hip Hop classes, Acting and currently working on their routines and monologues for this year's Annual STEAM Fest.
The funds we receive from the Youth Task Force allow us to keep our fees low so parents can make an easy choice to sign their child up for our program without it being a financial burden.
As always, we never turn a child away for an inability to pay and we have offered over $18K of doliars in Financial Aid to Middle School families in just the past 3 years. Our Middle School Programs run at a deficit but with the help of the Youth Task Force Funds, we are able to continue our good work at the Middle Schools.
