Education
I am a highly qualified candidate for the Planning Commission, with a strong academic background in urban planning and a passion for promoting sustainable, equitable development. In August 2021, I earned my Master's degree in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Illinois - Chicago, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of planning principles, policy analysis, and community engagement. In addition, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from Loyola Marymount University, where I conducted research on transportation equity in Los Angeles. My academic experiences have equipped me with a deep understanding of the challenges facing urban communities, as well as the tools and strategies needed to address them. I am eager to apply this knowledge to the important work of the Planning Commission and collaborate with other commissioners to help shape the future of Burbank.
Additional Pertinent Courses or Training
My educational background includes a range of courses that are highly relevant to the work of the Planning Commission. For instance, in the Plan Making Studio, I learned how to develop and implement effective planning strategies that address community needs and goals. In Geographic Information Systems, I gained valuable skills in mapping and data analysis, which are critical for making informed planning decisions for an Illinois township going through a general plan update. I also took courses in Historic Preservation, Urban Sociology, and Women and Environmental Justice, which have broadened my understanding of how planning can promote equitable and sustainable communities. In addition, my coursework in Spatial Analysis, Urban Analysis, and Environmental Planning and Policy has equipped me with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle complex planning challenges, such as land use, transportation, and environmental sustainability. Finally, I completed a course on Sustainable Cities, which deepened my understanding of how to create communities that are not only environmentally sustainable but also socially and economically vibrant. Overall, my coursework has prepared me well to contribute to the important work of the Planning Commission, and I am eager to apply my skills and knowledge to help shape the future of Burbank.
Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
I am an avid participant in s co-ed baseball league and enjoy playing in the city of Burbank's beautiful parks. However, my strongest sense of community comes from my involvement in the cycling community, which has inspired my passion for active transportation. In my free time, I enjoy bird watching and exploring the city's many trails. As a sports fan, I root for the Dodgers and Lakers, and on weekends, I love trying out new local coffee shops. Overall, my interests reflect my commitment to staying active, engaged, and connected with my community.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
Since my junior year at Burbank High School in 2009, I have been deeply interested in urban planning. It was during my involvement in Youth and Government at the Burbank YMCA that I had the opportunity to visit Sacramento and witness how government functions at the state level. It was there that I first learned about urban planning as a field and became captivated by its potential to make a positive impact. This passion led me to pursue a major in Urban Studies at Loyola Marymount University, and a Master's Degree in Urban Planning and Public Policy from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
I have a background
working with a diverse range of clients, including banks, investment firms, hedge funds, government entities, real estate companies, private foundations, and non-profit organizations, providing you with a broad perspective and understanding of various interests and priorities. This knowledge will be invaluable in helping the Burbank Planning Commission collaborate with different stakeholders in Burbank to create a more inclusive and livable community. I have experience in presenting to a Planning Commission in both La Canada Flintridge and Culver City, as a Planner within those city's community development departments.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? My goal is simply to increase participatory planning in the City of Burbank, together we can leverage data- driven approaches to identify areas of concern and propose evidence-based solutions. By incorporating community input and involving stakeholders in the planning process, we can ensure that the projects we undertake are responsive to the needs and aspirations of the residents of Burbank.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I’m a native Californian living in Burbank for fifty years.
Our family has participated in and donated to
Burbank Youth Sports, after school activities, PTA and we have volunteered to elect School Board Members.
I feel it is important for me to use my years of experiences and volunteer some time to the Planning Commission. Our family business was based in Burbank for more than 15 years.
We purchased
commercial properties for our Burbank business as it grew.
I’m well aware of the Permitting processes
and other codes and ordinances required to obtain Certificates of Occupancy to establish a business in Burbank as well as owing a home in Burbank. I have in depth (hands on) experience working with Codes, Ordinances, and Government Agencies at all levels.
I have worked directly with the United States Justice
Department.
I have been a committee member on State of California Code Authorities committee, National Standards Authorities committee and many others.
I have presented ADA code regulation
enforcement seminars to Code Enforcement Agencies as well as at numerous ADA Conventions regarding codes and equipment available for disabled. Burbank is a very desirable location to live, work and raise a family.
Burbank’s standard of living is being challenged by recent State of California actions such as:
SB 10 up to 10 Units on a single property without CEQA, SB 35 where new housing has not met Allocated Targets, must use a streamlined, ministerial review process for qualifying multifamily projects, and AB 2011 Middle Class Housing Act to allow residential development on sites zoned for commercial or retail uses, to name a few. Burbank infrastructure is built for the fullest capacity of reasonable population.
I believe increasing population density for the sake of more people in Burbank is not possible.
Quality of
life is important.
It is time to make responsible decisions and plan for the future growth of Burbank.
I will
provide my skills and experiences to the Planning Commission in furtherance of the goals established for Burbank. Burbank is the media capitol of the world I would consider it an honor to serve Burbank on the Planning Commission.
