City Council
September 12, 2023

COMMUNITY

DEVELOPMENT
AB 1482 STUDY SESSION RECAP
Community members have voiced concerns
regarding impact of evictions and application
of AB 1482
AB 1482 provides some just cause eviction
protections, but ambiguity with the “intent to
renovate” language in the law
Under AB 1482, for no-fault evictions, landlords
must provide relocation assistance in the
amount of one-month’s rent
2 AB 1482 STUDY SESSION RECAP – Cont.
 AB 1482: Just cause protections to tenants who
have resided in their unit for at least 12 months
(or 24 months for new tenant is added to the
rental agreement)
 Just causes are divided into at-fault evictions
(nonpayment of rent, breach of lease, etc.) and
no-fault evictions (owner move-in, substantial
renovation, etc.)
 Does not prohibit a city from passing a more
protective just cause for eviction ordinance. 3
