Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? My education and work have involved me intimately with Reading, Expression. Research, and Writing. A library is where people, no matter what age, learn these tools, get a chance to practice them. If I can assist people to better appreciate and/or to better develop skills in these areas, that wouild be a good fit for me. As a member of the Burbank Senior Citizen Board, the same principle has applied; to use my skills to make life better for Seniors. I've attended monthly Board meetings since January 2023, as well as attended special events at the Tuesday City Council meetings. As a result, I've learned a lot about the needs of manyBurbank residents. Serving people directly is definitely a learned skill, which I've experienced.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? As an avid reader and someone who utilizes and has utilized libraries in the previous areas I have called home, this particular Board is important to me as I truly believe in the importance of our public libraries and the necessity for a strong public library system in a small community like Burbank. As a new resident to Burbank, and as my wife and I begin to set our roots at our likely forever home, I am looking for opportunities to give back to and utilize my personal skills to help a community that has welcomed us and that I hope to help as much as I can. I have extensive experience on nonprofit boards and have over 15 years experience in the nonprofit management and fundraising sector. I work in secondary education and am passionate about learning opportunities for young people while also recognizing the importance libraries serve in fostering lifelong learning. My hope would be to ensure that future generations of Burbank residents have the same access to and appreciation of municipal libraries that I remember from my childhood and to help the Burbank libraries however I can as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I have lived in Burbank since 2005, and have gotten involved when and where I can. After serving on the Burbank Arts For All foundation for a decade, it was time to let new faces and voices lead the charge in the next iteration of leadership for our schools. I've been waiting for the right opportunity to participate in the life of our community and currently serve as VP, Communications for the PTSA at John Burroughs High School, where I have a 10th grader (and a current 8th grader at Luther who will attend next year). As a avid reader and lifelong learner, I just happen to love libraries. I maintain a little library in my front yard that receives quite a bit of foot traffic due to the business next door. It was incredibly rewarding to have that space during the pandemic when I could barely keep it stocked! I love our libraries and went often when my kiddos were younger, and value them as a communal gathering space that can serve many needs within the community. I follow the Library Foundation of LA, and have taken note of their engagement opportunities and programs like Young Literati. Libraries are one of my happy places and it would be an honor to serve within our community to keep them strong and sustainable and relevant--a place for people of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, interests, and needs.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Although as a child the library was a constant resource to my family, it wasn't until I was an adult that I truly understood just how much a library can support individuals and special groups, and contribute positively to a community as a whole. Once I had a small taste of that knowledge I've been searching for more and excited to see how far-reaching the impact of our public library is on this community that I love. I work in healthcare and have always felt a calling to help those around me, to support and lift up others with my work, knowledge and resources.

Describe any qualifications, experience, and education, as well as any technical or professional background you may have relative to the duties of this position.
In my current role as a Physical Therapist my focus is on training, education and supporting my peers in their success through mentorship. In this role I am constantly challenged with assessing if we are meeting our goals, questioning what we could do better or different to meet our goals and if those around me are supported to my best ability so they can be successful. Although the library board is clearly in a different field, the same skills apply in being able to assess if goals are being met to the best of our abilities to support others' successes and devise an action plan to achieve those goals. I have been very successful working in a team setting for my entire career. I value the knowledge others bring and am eager to listen, as well as ask questions and contribute my own information and thoughts.
What are your goals in serving on this Board/Commission/Committee? Initially my goal is to learn as much from those around me as I can, especially stepping into a new position. I plan to bring commitment, willingness to listen and learn, a curiosity to question the status quo if it's not serving us optimally, and a drive to make a positive impact on the future of Burbank.
