GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you believe youth board should play in city government: Discussing any issues or drawbacks and coming up with solutions and improvements; proposing new ideas that will positively impact the community; encouraging other young people to be involved in city events.

Please explain why you believe you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:

I am well-suited to represent our community's youth due to my diverse background in recreational activities in Burbank.

My life has been improved by partaking in a range of activities, such as basketball camp, tennis, sewing classes, and art lessons, all provided by Burbank Parks and Recreation. These opportunities have not only shaped my identity but have also sparked my passions. Furthermore, they have given me insight into the people and the vibrant spirit that sets apart Burbank's events. My leadership abilities, along with my search to challenge myself, make me an ideal representative of the youth in Burbank.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt to encourage youth participation and understanding in city government?
As a youth board member, I would promote youth participation in city government through various initiatives. One approach could be giving opportunities for youth to voice their concerns and ideas, whether through social media, online platforms, or surveys. To increase youth understanding of city government drastically I could even create a club at Burbank High, where I would host speakers and educate others on the operations of local government. By creating a welcoming learning environment, we can empower our youth to take an interest in city government and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of Burbank.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you belleve youth board should play in city govemment: Youth board is one of the few opportunities where young individuals get to discuss the issues relating to them. Please explain why you belleve you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:
have never been afraid to voice my opinions and condems. A large part of my identity is my ability to have the confidence needed when advocating for what I believe in. I.have experience. in reporting unblased news from being a part of my schools newspaper and well as good speaking skills from being the President of my schools Mock Trial team.

I have also completed the Youth Leadership Program and the CREST program where I learned many new skills and techniques In regaras to public speaking, interviews, and maintaining a professional decorum. From my pror experience of Youth Board, I know that Ihave the skills necessary to help represent the youth of Burbank.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt. to encourage youth participation and understanding in city govemment?
I belleve that everyone has good ideas; however, many people keep those Ideas to themselves due to their fear of criticism.

Twant to establish a community where no one feels ashamed of speaking their mind. By establishing a welcoming environment, I hope that more people feel comfortable speaking to our city government. Önce they become more comfortable, only then will they realize the true power of their voice Please complete additional required information on Page 3.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you believe youth board should play in city government:
- Youth board should play a large role in working with the city government in order to provide a young person's perspective on city issues, which is a perspective that is not always acknowledged. It is important to get young people involved in government, even if it is only at city level, in order to have a well informed population who are able to have a voice and opinions in larger government in the future.

Please explain why you believe you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:

I believe I am qualified to represent community youth because I am knowledgeable on many political issues and city issues such as the recent protests by Armenians near city hall. I am also qualified to represent community youth because I have relations with all types of people at school with all different backgrounds, therefore I would be able to provide many different perspectives on city matters and advocate for what different communities care about.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt to encourage youth participation and understanding in city government?
As a youth board member, I would encourage youth participation and understanding of city government by showing young people that their voice can have a direct impact on what happens around them in Burbank and I would let them know that if they have a strong opinion on something they have ways to share their opinions with the people that represent them.

As a way to give back, I. volunteer my time 1-2 days a week. As their first ever high school inter, I am involved in both administrative and creative work; organizing events/fundraisers for students and their children, social media management, etc.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you believe youth board should play in city government:

I've grown up attending family gatherings at which I would quickly be assigned to the "kids' table". I looked forward to the day I would graduate to the "adults' table" and be granted the opportunity for my voice to be heard and valued. Youth board allows driven young - activists a seat at the "adults' table" and the opportunity to create positive, impactful change within our community and beyond.

Please explain why you believe you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:

As a person who grew up in a single-parent immigrant household, my experiences have shaped me In profound ways and have instilled in me a deep commitment to social justice and advocacy. I find that engaging in politics is the most rewarding and effective way to do so. I'm passionate about politics because it is vital to tackle significant social issues in order to pave a path towards equity and justice. A significant component of civic engagement is the ability to connect and unite people with various beliefs and perspectives, harnessing each person's strengths and insights to have a greater influence on our community. Building strong relationships with people Is something I love and value. I'm committed to continuously learning and working alongside like minded peers in order to contribute to the improvement of our society. I make It my mission to always create a diverse and inclusive space within my - community. With that being sald, even leaders aren't expected to have a solution to every problem. Just as the President often relles on their Vice President and cabinet members, I greatly value the weight of shared expertise and group decision-making.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt to encourage youth participation and understanding in city government?
As a young person who understands and appreciates the impact the youth can have on city government, I will seek new, innovative strategies to grow youth engagement within our community. Firstly, I'll look to utilize the advantages technology poses, such as creating fun, interactive videos and live streams on TikTok. Such videos will actively engage youth, making civic and political discourse more accessible and appealing to a younger demographic. We can also encourage city officials to engage with the youth community through social media, which creates a direct dialogue between our politicians and youth. Another proposal i'd have is a new online app that serves to give the young residents of Burbank access to information on upcoming meetings, events, and different resources. This is an incentive to the youth to become more active in government. Furthermore, I'll look to introduce a system of "City Ambassadors" among the youth in Burbank. These ambassadors would serve as direct "messengers" andemathud of direct communication between city officials and their peers, while actively encouraging civic cultural i equrou
engagement and portraying the concerns and ideas of young residents. They can organize youth-centered events, workshops, and different programs to establish a sense of ownership and belonging within the local political field. Generation Z embodies a group of leaders and change-makers driven by activism and unity. The end goal is to combine technology and dedicated ambassadors to turn politics into something that is a trending and relevant topic among the youth audience. •

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you believe youth board should play in city government: I believe we should play a key role in education.

Often, decisions about our school districts are made without consulting the students it affects, and it leaves many students anxious and unhappy. Thope, as a member of the youth board, i can bring awareness to those issues and change them.

Please explain why you believe you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:

I believe l am uniquely suited to represent Burbank's youth community because of my constant involvement with the city.

I am an officer in a wide range of clubs at my school, meaning I meet and befriend different types of people, allowing me to hear and understand the needs and concerns of people from different backgrounds. When I recognize issues, I take initiative to address and fix them myself. For example, the reason I coach for free at public schools is because I recognized that private schools had better means of affording debate coaches, leaving public schools at a great disadvantage.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt to encourage youth participation and understanding in city government?
I have always been a big advocate for young people getting involved in government and politics. Every policy passed directly impacts my generation, especially those concerning school and climate change. As a Youth Board member, I would use my resources, such as my journal and debate program, to inform the youth about matters they should care about. I would present the information in a simple, easily digestible manner, as to not dissuade them from it, and make sure to hear their opinion on the topic as well. It's important to not only spread information about our city, but to receive feedback as well.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Please explain the role you believe youth board should play in city government: I belleve the youth board should play an active role in responding primarily to the needs of the youth in our city while also spreading awareness abou he city and its policies/actions to the young generation Please explain why you believe you are qualified to represent community youth on the Youth Board:

I strongly believe I am qualified because of my passion. I am passionate about helping people, which can be reflected in my work and volunteer experiences. Over the summer of 2023, I was a work trainee of Burbank Parks and Rec at the Stough Nature Center, where I actively worked with kids ages 7-11. I also volunteer at a hospital, where I am responsible for assisting in caretaking. In both settings, I understand the needs of the people I'm with and make sure to provide them with everything I am capable of doing. I believe this is a necessary trait to have when trying to understand the voices of the youth in our city in order to make a difference.

As a Youth Board member, by what means would you attempt to encourage youth participation and understanding in city government?
As a Youth Board member, I would try to encourage youth participation by connecting to the clubs in the city's schools. From poli sci club to crocheting club, the clubs on campus target a variety of interests students have.

By working with these individual clubs and working with their interests, we not only reach a broad spectrum of individuals, but also make sure that people understand their interests and passions are heard and appreciated in the city. The more people feel a sense of belonging in a city, the more they would be encouraged to participate and understand the city government.
