Members of Council,
I've reached out to speak with some of you, and others I do not have a direct number for. I have several concerns with the ZTA that will be enacted in not altered tomorrow and would like to discuss ideas to incentivize ownership of the newly created housing and hopefully help to slow the tide of families exiting California as a means to be able own the home and land where they live.
I've been informed that some of the big "for ownership" projects like the car wash have been cancelled. That means that the City is becoming increasingly a place to rent your future rather than own it. SB-9, by all accounts, continues and accelerates this process by taking a piece of land where a family once owned their City and turning it into two properties where an investment group can rent it to tenants to maximize profits at top market rates.
Additionally, I'd like to speak with you about asking a very targeted question about SB 9 being implemented in the fire zone potentially through the tax/ fee placed on supposedly inspecting
the hillside properties. Most owners are not aware this fee may be being used to facilitate their loss of direct control of their own land, and they did not get a direct vote to decide to do that.
In the small sample I've spoken with, I've been able to determine most are unaware this is happening and thought the firezone was excluded.
As I inform people I've found they would
like to be represented by people who protect their interests or at least give them a chance to decide for themselves if they'd like to change policies in their own zoning, very much like the
wealthy people who own horses that you recently decided to help avoid the law and increase their land value.
I hope you will offer the thousands of people in the foothills and hillside areas the same kind of representation before continuing with a fee that is simply a taxation (in that the inspection appears to be for show only).
My cell phone is area code . If you would be willing to speak with me, and I am not available I am happy to schedule a time that suits you best.
Warmest regards,
Simon Hammel
