Burbank City Council: Honorable Mayor Schultz, Honorable City Council Members City of Burbank, California Regarding: Art in Public Places Committee Member Absences March 20, 2024
Dear Mayor Schultz, Vice-Mayor Perez, and Honorable City Council Members, In the past few months, one of our esteemed Art in Public Praces Committee (Committee) Members, Patricia Hollis, has unfortunately been unable to attend three consecutive board meetings. As per the provisions outlined in the Burbank Municipal Code 2-1-403, the Committee must review the absences of any member who has been absent for three or more consecutive Committee meetings and subsequently determine whether these absences should be excused or unexcused by the City Council (Council).

Ms. Hollis has been an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Committee since her appointment in 2019.

Unfortunately, she could not attend the past three consecutive Committee meetings held on January 8, 2024, January 16, 2024, and February 27, 2024. It should be noted that, in accordance with the BMC Section 2-1-422, the Committee holds its meetings on an as-needed basis. During the March 4, 2024, Committee meeting, the Committee discussed Ms. Hollis' absences.

Ms. Hollis expressed her deepest regrets for missing the Committee meetings. She explained that she had made prior travel arrangements between November 9, 2023, and January 26, 2024, and notified both staff and Committee members in advance regarding her planned absence. Ms. Hollis reaffirmed her unwavering dedication to service on the Committee, emphasizing her commitment to the public art projects that fall under the Committee's purview.

Following Ms. Hollis' explanation, the Committee members discussed her overall performance and contributions to the Committee and community. Each Committee member had an opportunity to express their thoughts, and as the chair, I also shared my perspective. I am pleased to inform you that every Committee member expressed their unwavering support for Ms. Hollis to remain on the Committee. They acknowledged her previous efforts and contributions and recognized her passion for works of art in public spaces.

Therefore, based on the unanimous sentiment expressed by the Committee, it was moved by Committee member Myeisha Peguero Gamino, seconded by Committee member Robert Monaco, and carried with a 6-0 vote to recommend that the Council excuse these absences. We firmly believe that Ms. Hollis' commitment to the Committee and her valuable insights and contributions greatly benefit the Committee and our community.

We kindly request your understanding and consideration in excusing Ms. Hollis' absences. Her sincere dedication and commitment to the mission of the Art in Public Places program, as well as her devotion to public art, makes her an indispensable member of the Committee. We are confident that she will continue to make valuable contributions.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. The entire Committee sincerely appreciates your support and understanding.

Sincerely,
