Good afternoon,
What a great start to the holiday weekend here at the Maui Apartments! So many evictions! Can we please stop with this study nonsense now? Close the loopholes and put in a rent cap for the love of sweet baby jesus! No need to set 200K on fire unless you want to maybe buy me all the stuff on my Nordstrom wishlist.

I realize us folks making under 92k are peasants no one cares about and while I can afford to leave this poor hating racist town some can't afford to rent anywhere.

We need protections NOW. Watching my 80 yr old neighbor get a notice was sickening and I'm tired of watching this happen because some greedy group of C-words wants to get rich. It's happening all over Burbank and has been for over a year.

PLEASE HELP YOUR COMMUNITY INSTEAD OF UNHOUSING IT.

Thanks,
Amber Lee Sunshine Granger

Dear City Council,
I hope you are doing well. I am Adriana Santos, a resident of Burbank, CA for over 30 years. I am writing to you to vote against spending $100,000 on studying the rent cap in Burbank. There have been many people in the community who have expressed to you their personal stories of the housing crisis. Therefore, I believe the money should be better spent in other ways to help people being wrongfully evicted from their homes and priced out of Burbank. This is an important issue that needs action immediately, and I feel that implementing a community engagement program to study the rent cap, will just delay action from the city council, resulting in many more people losing their homes.

On a separate note, for my general public comment, I believe that Burbank should have stronger laws put in place for people being loud in the middle of the night. Usually, the Burbank Police Department does a fantastic job of handling noise complaints. However, there have been instances where certain residents just “turn the noise down” for a while, and then raise it back up after the police have arrived. Also, other residents that feel that playing loud TV at 3:00 am is okay after the police have arrived. I believe that implementing stricter enforcement such as a “noise fine” will deter people from being so inconsiderate of their neighbors.

Thank you for your time.
-Adriana Santos

Hi,
I have two comments regarding the city council meeting next Tuesday:
1) As a member of Strong Towns Burbank I support the idea of the city budgeting for $40k to be spent funding go passes for students in BUSD. I have a 3 week old newborn at home and there are many things I look forward to doing with her in the future. One thing I DON’T look forward to is wasting hours and hours acting as her personal taxi. A program like this will be crucial for helping us strike a good balance in the future! 2) I live in the Media District and support the draft Media District Specific Plan. In particular I like the zoning changes which will hopefully open up construction of more condos and townhomes in the area. My wife and I would love to buy a condo or townhome, but can’t afford what is currently on the market. Increasing development would hopefully help drive prices down to more reasonable levels. I also love the proposed cycle tracks on Pass and Riverside. Crossing the 134 on a bike has always felt extremely dangerous so I love seeing that we might solve that in the future!
Sorry I can’t be there on Tuesday to make these comments in person. Like I alluded to earlier:

I’m currently bogged down with a much much littler task :-) - Nathan Adair

TO:

Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM:

Sustainable Burbank Commission
SUBJECT: FY24-25 Budget Request
The Sustainable Burbank Commission in recent years has taken a more active role in community engagement and participation. And we've had much success with our 2023 and 2024 Earth Day events and our three Go Green Community Forums to educate the community about sustainability issues. Unfortunately, our Commissioners have been bearing the burden of covering the costs of these events. To relieve Commissioners, who are volunteers, from shouldering these costs, and to institutionalize these events, we are requesting that Burbank City Council provide the Commission with an annual budget of $15,000.

These funds would be used for event expenses that include, but are no limited to:
registration, insurance, equipment and setup rentals, permit fees, marketing and advertising, signage and service vendor fees. The funds would also be used to partner with and support other local organizations' sustainability efforts, such as: Burbank Eco Council, Burbank

Community Garden, Monarch Mile, Sierra Club Verdugo Chapter, Burbank Electrification Coalition, and Master Gardeners.

We recognize that there is precedent with other Commissions in Burbank having an annual budget to support their work and see this funding as critical to supporting our efforts in the community. To quote Burbank Eco Council, this funding would help us "highlight our environmental efforts, create momentum in the environmental dialogue, and demonstrate our commitment and leadership in addressing climate change." Please maintain what the state has provided. There has been a lot of money already spent on this study. It's a waste. My recent insurance bill starting July 27th just went up over $800.00 dollars for a 5 unit building.

Please I want to continue to live in Burbank. I have affordable rents.

Maintain AB 1482.

Stop using time and money when something is already in place. Take it to a vote by the people again. People of Burbank already voted it down.

Thank you

Dear City Council,
How much does it cost to put the rent control on the ballot in November and just let people’s voices be heard through the ballot box. You are proposing spending $100,000 to do outreach to find out if Burbank residents want rent control or not. Is it because rent control has overwhelmingly been rejected by the voters and because a so called Burbank Tenant’s Union keeps lobbying city council members to push and impose their minority held agenda on the greater majority population in Burbank who opposes their interests? Why does the city council want to impose rent control in a hurry? Many BTU concerns and needs have already been addressed. Why all the lobbying for further rent controls and price caps that the voters have repeatedly voted against.

Why not just put it on the ballot again? Who’s benefitting from this $100,000 ? How is the BTU not a lobby serving some self interest that does not represent the Burbank voters.

Why the relentless lobbying for rent control that the majority of residents have repeatedly told you they do not want and repeatedly voted against it, voting it down. Now you intend to spend $100,000 to do outreach to find out what? Are you doing the lobbyists bidding by spending tax payers’ money or are you continually pushing the lobbyist agendas through one form another until you can manipulate the answer you want with a skewed survey? None of this makes any sense. The voters have voted further rent control caps in Burbank down multiple times. What outreach info do you need to understand how the majority of residents feel about this? How is this not another lobbyist tactic here to get their minority way, get what they want and have the tax payers pay for it rather than just vote on it again.

What is really going on here?
Do the tax payers need to file for information through FOIA regarding city council member meetings and discussions and decisions and communications to find out what’s really going on here and why the city council can’t accepted what the tax payers have already voted on which is no rent control in Burbank and now the city council wants to spend $100,000 to do another study to find out if residents want rent control? Or is it to do this study spending tax payer money to give the union lobby what it wants over the majority of voters in Burbank? Burbank residents have repeatedly voted against further rent control caps in Burbank. The BTU lobby wants rent control for their own agenda which is not in alignment with the majority of Burbank residents. This has been voiced many times. Four city council members continually reject what Burbank voters voted against and continually support the lobbyist agenda. And now these four city council members are in a hurry to impose rent control anyway and the city council wants to spend $100,000 tax payer money for what exactly? How is any of this benefitting Burbank residents? Why is the city council appeasing and supporting this lobby group over what Burbank voters have expressed which is no rent control in Burbank. What is the accountability for this $100,000, how is it being spent and who is benefiting from this money? Did you receive multiple bids from objective firms to conduct the study? Why aren’t the city council members listening to their staffers recommendations? What are the communications between BTU and city council members?
Burbank residents need answers and transparency please.

Thank you.

Hello Mayor and Councilors,
I wanted to write and express my hope that you will reject the proposed rent cap study on the table. Implementing this would only delay our city's ability to act on what is an already obvious issue. Housing costs are an urgent crisis, especially during this time of inflation coinciding with a brutal contraction of the entertainment industry.

A rent cap is needed now, urgently. Please don't use this study to delay helping the citizens of Burbank!

Dear Mayor Schultz,
You are absolutely right! RENTS ARE TOO DAMN HIGH!

You have the opportunity and
power at tomorrow nights meeting in moving forward with a vote on rent caps.

Please we
don’t need more outreach.

Renter are being displaced!

We need action.

You have the power
to do the right thing for your city!

I have been apart of the Rise Program, Waste Warrior program and most recently participated in a community walk with the development department of the city of Burbank.

What I find
quite interesting is that many city employees can’t even afford to live in Burbank.

I currently live in a building that has

paper thin walls no amenities and rent was not supposed to be raised…. That was a selling point when I starting renting .. now new manager joins and continues to raise the rent at the 10% or 8.9% the max amount it is allowed.

I have also been
threaten by the owner while manager was a witness.

You have to help the renters in this city!

Too many renters are too scared to voice their
opinions.

In my initial emails to city Council I didn’t include my own personal story because I have been threatened and I’m nervous to voice my opinion.

I’m only sending this email to
you since I did receive a flyer in the mail with Rents are too damn high and I believe you and I hope they will follow through on your promise!

Kind Regards,
Janet

Rent control measures should be voted on by the people. The people have already voted to oppose expansive local measures. Do not make a Burbank into LA. Renters want to live here because it is not LA. Y ou cannot legislate quality of life. Leave well enough alone. Ask LA County and State to provide project housing for those in need in less affluent areas.
