Interests & Experiences
Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I'm interesting in serving the board because I now have the time to give back to my community. This community has given us so much while raising our kids. With my experience as a nurse and patient safety officer and environmental safety officer, I feel I can bring that knowledge and apply it to the needs of our seniors (I'm now one of them). The many years as an ICU nurse and as a administrator in the hospital provided with enough geriatric experience to share my thoughts when discussing the needs of seniors in our community.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I was raised with a strong community service ethic. Since retiring, I've joined local nonprofit boards and volunteered my time and skills on local election campaigns, I've attended meetings and interacted with Burbank city commissions and recognize their value to the functioning and improvement of our community. For me, becoming a member of a city board is a natural next step in giving service back to Burbank.

I would also work to find ways to broaden the scope of of activities and benefits available to our senior community and to make them more accessible. Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I’m interested in serving on the Senior Citizen Board as I’d like to be more directly involved in issues facing Burbank’s older adults. I’ve lived in Burbank a long time and sincerely love it. We have wonderful services and a sense of community. As our community ages, however, I believe there is even more we can do. I'm familiar with the state of California's Master Plan for Aging and would like to do my part in building initiatives on the local level.

Additional Pertinent Courses or Training
I had two major focuses during my studies towards the Master of Science degree in Gerontology. The first was Program Evaluation, systematically assessing social program’s operations and effectiveness. The second, Aging-in-Place, the development of initiatives to allow older adults to remain in their homes.

Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
As a Project Manager, Aging & Disabilities at Vital Research, in Los Angeles, California, I supervised large-scale research surveys in the aging and disabilities field for state governments. I led field staff in conducting thousands of in-person interviews of residents in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing facilities. The results of these interviews became part of a state's report card to assure high quality of life for their housed older adults. I've also worked with state agencies such as the Pima Council on Aging, and private companies, such as Arosa, an in-home care services provider.

I’ve had over thirty years of professional management experience in the entertainment industry and am strategic, versatile, and results-focused. I’m an effective disseminator of information with excellent listening skills, able to consult with personnel and external stakeholders at all levels to determine appropriate strategies and actions. After retiring from entertainment, I received my Master of Science degree in Gerontology and changed careers.

I worked at Vital Research where I specialized in aging services and public health research initiatives that promote healthy aging. I also worked with the Pima Council on Aging in Tucson, Arizona, to develop a digital training program for their Caregiver Training Institute, and in a marketing capacity, with Arosa, a care management firm. I’m an enthusiastic and entrepreneurial gerontologist that’s looking forward to becoming more involved in the community.

My goal is to be a strong advocate for the rights of older adults and their needs in the community. I view this as an opportunity to immerse myself in the issues. I would like to assure the City of Burbank’s livability for Older Adults. This not only includes affordable housing but managing the cost of living as well. I would also like to develop programs that build the intergenerational relationships between older adults and younger generations. Finally, while Burbank already has wonderful programs through Parks & Rec, I would like to see this expanded upon. I have many ideas for shared housing programs, networking, and educational services.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I’m a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience and I have a law degree. I served on the Washington County library board as trustee and was briefly president of the board. I resigned that position because I was offered a different position as a contractor for the military.
