Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Last year I moved to Burbank from West Hollywood. Although I moved only 8 miles north and across Griffith Park, I entered another world. I have been beyond impressed with Burbank’s culture, community, and small town feel, and I am eager to be an active participant in shaping the community's future. As a lifelong educator and new Burbank homeowner, the Parks and Recreation mission—to be the heart of the community by providing enriching opportunities through dedicated people, beautiful parks, and inspiring programs— resonates deeply with me and encompasses my skills and passions. With over two decades of experience as an educator in West Los Angeles, I have always been passionate about fostering environments that support growth, resilience, and community engagement. My role as an educational leader at The Archer School for Girls, where we empower young women to discover their passions and realize their true potential, aligns perfectly with the objectives of Burbank's Parks and Recreation services. I am enthusiastic about contributing to initiatives that provide enriching opportunities through various recreational programs, special interest classes, sports programs, and community events. I am particularly interested in supporting the Recreation Services Division's wide range of programs, from youth and adult sports to environmental and educational nature programs. These services are essential in building a strong, connected community and providing residents with opportunities for personal growth, healthy living, and lifelong learning. Additionally, the Community Services Division's mission to provide a variety of human services, arts and cultural programs, and supportive programs for all ages is inspiring. I am committed to supporting initiatives such as congregate and home-delivered meal programs for older adults, senior recreation activities, programs for the disabled, and advocacy services. These programs are vital in ensuring that all members of our community, regardless of age or ability, have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. My extensive experience in a collaborative, student-centered teaching and learning environment has equipped me with the skills necessary to effectively gather community feedback, understand diverse needs, and make informed recommendations. I am excited about the prospect of working with fellow committee members, city officials, and community organizations to enhance our parks and recreational facilities, ensuring they remain accessible and welcoming to all.

Masters in Teaching and English from Loyola Marymount University Teaching Credential from Cal State Dominguez Hills BA from UC Santa Barbara in Psychology Additional Pertinent Courses or Training
Leadership training from Harvard Myriad professional development courses in building positive culture and supporting equity, inclusivity and belonging Other Pertinent Skills, Experience or Interests
I love art and culture, and delight in the whimsical array of subcultures that abound in Burbank. I have horses and dogs and have enjoyed obedience training and animal husbandry programming offered through LA recreation. Nature recharges my batteries, so I love hiking through Griffith Park, horseback riding, and birdwatching. I am an excellent public speaker who does speech training for teens and adults. Writing and researching are areas that I enjoy and continue to hone. My superpower is seeing possibility, maintaining optimism in the face of challenge, and collaborating with a wide array of different people to support mission and purpose. And despite this prosaic response, I have a healthy sense of humor, which many appreciate, especially in tense or tedious situations.

Please tell us about yourself and why you want to serve.
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I am passionate about people and the City of Burbank. I lived in Burbank (Downtown Burbank off Olive at the Avalon apartments) when I first came to LA in 2006 and absolutely fell in love with the city. Even when I moved out of the city, I constantly found myself back in Burbank for the hiking, outdoor spaces and enjoying what the city has to offer. Being an active hiker and outdoors person, I appreciate Parks and Recreation and the efforts the team puts in to preserve our trails, outdoor event areas and community spaces. I'm a firm believer in an active lifestyle as it promotes healthy living and local activity for the city. As an outdoor advocate and being business minded I would like to discuss and incorporate ideas to further enhance and preserve our facilities, generate revenue and become a valuable member of the team to take our city to the next level.

Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I'm originally from the East Coast, and my family moved to Los Angeles back in 2014. Once we started a family, we started to research other areas that would allow us to be part of a family-friendly community, and that's when we found Burbank. We had heard about the excellent school system and a community that's fairly intimate. We didn't realize what this really meant until we moved and got to know so many of our neighbors and friends from our community. Burbank has given us a sense of belonging in a way that we did not expect, given that we are transplants after living so long across the country. The people we've met throughout have become our "village" and we are very thankful for this city. I am interested in serving on the board, because I am deeply committed to contributing to the well-being and vitality of the Burbank community. Public spaces and recreational services play a crucial role in fostering a sense of community, promoting health, and enhancing the quality of life for residents of all ages. As someone who has dedicated my career to innovation and strategic thinking, I am excited about the opportunity to apply these skills to help shape and improve the programs and services that our community relies on. Serving on this board would allow me to give back to the city that I call home, by helping to ensure that our parks, recreational facilities, and community programs continue to meet the evolving needs of Burbank's residents. I am passionate about creating inclusive, accessible, and vibrant public spaces that bring people together, and I believe my experience in strategic planning and community engagement can contribute meaningfully to the board's efforts.
Education
My background includes extensive experience in developing and implementing strategies that foster community well-being and engagement. I have collaborated with various stakeholders, including city officials, to ensure that programs and services meet the evolving needs of the community. My work has always emphasized the importance of accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability—values that are crucial for public service roles.

I have found that my "superpower" lies within developing out strategies and implementing change management in organizations. As part of my job, I'm very close to continuous disruptions in technology in trends, and I can bring forth ideas that can help Burbank implement innovative solutions to serve the community. I also volunteer at our school (Thomas Jefferson Elementary), am a Girl Scouts troop leader, and hold a leadership position at our church. Serving and engaging the community is part of my core values, and serving as a Burbank board member is another way for me to utilize my skillsets and be part of the change.
