Recommendation:
Approval of Sponsorship Request from San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus (SDSU-IV) Cross-Cultural Center in Support of Hispanic Heritage Month Event.
Background:
On October 10, 2022, Administration received a letter from Ms. Vanessa Falcon and Mr.
Carlos Fitch, from SDSU-IV Cross-Cultural Center, requesting an event sponsorship donation of three hundred, seventy-five dollars ($375.00) to support the event "En el Patio de Atrás" in the SDSU-IV Rodney Auditorium on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
The play, "En el Patio de Atrás" from Mexicali's Colectivo "Voces en Órbita" , provides binational partnerships to a community of artists across the Mexicali-Calexico border region. It amplifies the stories of success represented in postsecondary education. This event is parallel to the celebrations of heritage months in the United States.
On October 12, 2022, the City Council of the City of Calexico met in a special meeting in which the request was approved, and where Councilwoman Romo expressed an interest to sponsor two hundred dollars ($200.00) from her discretionary account.
Discussion & Analysis:
On October 13, 2022, Administration received a second sponsorship request letter from SDSU-IV Cross-Cultural Center for an additional AGENDA donation. Councilwoman Romo recommends a donation of two hundred ITEM dollars ($200.00) from her discretionary fund. If approved, the City would be sponsoring SDSU-IV a grand total of five hundred, seventy-five 15 dollars ($575.00) for the aforementioned event.

RE: SDSU-IV Cross-Cultural Center's Request of Event Sponsorship Dear Ms. Romo and Ms. Colio Warren,
We write this letter on behalf of the Empoderación en la Educación Project at the Cross- Cultural Center at San Diego State University - Imperial Valley to request the sponsorship of $200.00 to support the event "Queering the Border symposium" in the SDSU-IV Library on Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m.
The symposium will be parallel to the celebrations of heritage months in the United States, as we strive to highlight diversity, equity and diversity in our institution. In this event, two faculty members self-identified as LGBTQ+ and three community leaders from the LGBTQ+ community will share their experiences in their respective careers.
We hope the council approves this sponsorship, as it is of great importance to continue creating opportunities of learning about our diverse communities in our borderlands region through inclusive programming. It will also be an honor to count with your presence to engage with our panelists on October 27.
