PREPARED BY: Liliana Falomi, Pubic Works Manager - Administrating Talen SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution of the City Council of the City of Calexico Authorizing the Submittal of Application(s) for All CalRecycle Grant and Payment Programs for which the City of Calexico is Eligible.
=========
Recommendation:

Adopt Resolution No. 2023-_of the City Council of the City of Calexico authorizing the Submittal of Application(s) for all CalRecycle Grant and Payment Programs for which the City of Calexico is eligible.

Background:

In 1988, the State of California enacted a program to place a deposit on beverage containers. The deposit is currently 5 cents for small beverage containers and 10 cents for large beverage containers. This program is overseen by CalRecycle. CalRecycle each year provides funding to jurisdictions to enhance the beverage container program. For the last 15 years, the Imperial Valley Resource Management Agency (IVRMA) has worked with member jurisdictions (Brawley, El Centro, Calexico, Calipatria, Holtville, Westmorland and Imperial) to apply for the funding. IVRMA has used the funding for projects such as providing technical assistance and recycling bins to businesses to start or expand their recycling. IVRMA has also provided CalRecycle with the required program and financial reporting.

Discussion & Analysis:

On April 16, 2016, the City Council of the City of Calexico adopted Resolution No. 2016- 04 authorizing submittal of application to the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) for payment programs and related AGENDA authorizations related to the payment program (Attachment #2). City ITEM staff has been informed by IVRMA that CalRecycle has requested that we update our resolution and include the following: 6
• Future CalRecycle Grants
• Period of five (5) years
For this reason, City staff is recommending that the City Council of the City of Calexico adopt the attached resolution (Attachment #1) authorizing the Submittal of Application (s) for all CaRecycle Grant and Payment Programs for which the City of Calexico is eligible.
