SUBJECT: Authorize City Manager to File Notice of Completion for the Construction of New Fire Station, Project/Permit #20-0522 ============== ===================
Recommendation:
Authorize City Manager to File Notice of Completion for the Construction of New Fire Station No. 1 Project/Permit #20-0522.
Background:
On March 12, 2020, the City of Calexico solicited bids for the Construction of a New Fire Station Project. The project consisted of the demolition of the existing two-story fire station #1 building. Demolition involved the separation of the building and building systems (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and communications) from the existing police station, which is to remain in place. The new fire station is one story and approximately 9,000 SF. The new station has three drive through apparatus bays with suppression support spaces, which includes a turnout room with clean-up area, workshop, restroom, hose storage, air compressor room and mechanical support spaces. The firefighter living quarters include eight firefighter bunk rooms, four gender neutral restrooms, laundry, dayroom, dining, kitchen, and fitness room. The site improvements include new concrete driveway approaches, front concrete apron, rear concrete apron, decorative metal fencing with pedestrian and automatic sliding gates and keypads. New paving area in between the new fire station and existing police station. Project includes new and existing plantings and landscape areas, irrigation, and bio retention areas.
Bids were received on May 12, 2020. On June 3, 2020, the Calexico City Council awarded a construction agreement to Oakview Constructors, Inc., in AGENDA the amount of $5,827,400. After several change orders, penalties, and ITEM additional work, the total fire station cost is approximately $8,403,000.
Discussion and Analysis
On April 24, 2023, Oakview Constructors, Inc. completed the Construction of New Fire Station Project, therefore it is recommended that the City Council of the City of Calexico authorize the City Manager to file Notice of Completion for said project.
Fiscal Impact:
No fiscal impact: all funds to complete the fire station, including change orders, were previously approved by the city council.
