Background:
The T-Mobile Hometown Grant supports people and organizations who help small towns across America thrive and grow. Every quarter, Hometown Grants are given to up to 25 small towns to support community projects and help build stronger communities.
One of the projects that this grant may fund is technology upgrades for libraries. The deadline to submit this grant opportunity is September 30, 2023.
Discussion & Analysis:
AGENDA
The Camarena Memorial Library has 20 public access computers at its main library. Computers are over 7 years old and need replacement. ITEM Part of the library's mission is to provide innovative library services which includes the latest technology. The current adopted budget does 10 not include funding to replace computer equipment. Library users use public computers for a variety of reasons such as to browse the internet, check email or social media, complete assignments, search for jobs, work on resumes, listen to music and learn new skills, just to mention a few.
Having equipment responsive to user's needs enhances the services provided to the community.
At the same time, users of all ages are still in need of acquiring basic computer skills.
Learning how to create a report, a presentation or learning how to use social media is still needed in our community. This brings the need of requesting additional funding to purchase laptops and a mobile charging cart to provide basic computer classes that would be of benefit to the community.
The following items will be included in the grant application:
1. 20 desktop computers
2. 12 laptop computers
3. 1 mobile charging cart
Fiscal Impact:
None.
