Background:
The position of General Commissioner to the Calexico Housing Authority Board became vacant due to the expiration of the term for Mr. Juan G. Villareal on November 6, 2023. The City Council as a whole needs to fill this position. The position was advertised on the City website, City Hall and at the Calexico Housing Authority.
Discussion and Analysis:

This letter serves as my official request to you to be appointed as a board member of the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico.
I have been a resident of the City of Calexico for the past 35 years, and I currently reside at Calexico, CA. 92231.
I am a retired person who worked for the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico for over 30 years, where I held the position of Finance Department Supervisor until I retired back in May 2023.
I am a responsible and concern citizen who wants to help (via my accumulated knowledge and experience in the housing area to improve the life and living environment of current and future of public housing and section 8 program tenants
During the many years that I had the opportunity to work for the Calexico Housing Authority, I was able to obtain different certifications related to the public housing and section 8 program, including but not limited to: Public housing and Section 8 Budgeting and Accounting, Public housing and Section 8 program Rent Calculation Specialist, Section 8 program Quality Standards Specialist (inspector), Improvement Modernization Program and Construction Contracts, Procurement in Public Housing Training and others.
Also, I currently hold an active State of California license as a Real Estate Broker, that I obtained over 15 years ago.
All the knowledge and accumulated experience, will help me to help the other commissioners, management and staff of the agency, to plan and make educated decisions for the benefit of the low- income residents of our City of Calexico.
Now more than ever, residents of this City and the entire Valley need to have access to affordable housing that almost disappear in the last few months, due to a very high increment in rents in the private sector.
As I previously mentioned, 1 am retired, all my children are adults and married, who live here in the Imperial Valley and work in areas of Education and Health Care where they try to contribute to somehow improve the life of our community:
I am a team player, I have knowledge and accumulated experience and most important, I have the strong desire to help my community here in Calexico where the need for affordable housing is a high priority for a great majority of the families.

My experience in the Finance field had allowed me tr contribute in the excellent operation of the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico and its continued success in assisting our community when I served on the Housing Authority Commission from 2006 through 2013.
I would like to be considered to be appointed to the City of Calexico Housing Authority Commission in order to continue working with this agency in it's effort to improve our community.

Honorable Council,
1 am submitting my Letter of Interest to be considered and be appointed to serve as a Public Commissioner for the Calexico Housing Authority's Board of Directors. I understand that the Calexico City Council will be selecting one commissioner in your next regular meeting to fill one Public Commissioner's term.
I was a teacher for the Calexico Unified School District for over thirty years and 1 am now retired. As a teacher, I had to work with different groups of students and with different groups of parents as well. I served as a Department Chair:
several times during my thirty plus years. I had to speak to students, parents, staff, and members of the community in both English and Spanish in order to address matters of education and community activities. I was also a coach and referee student activities in our community.
As a member of the Calexico Teacher's Association, I served as a representative for my school many times and was a treasurer for the Association for two terms.
In my community, I was part of the AYSO program. I was also a member and served as Vice-President of the Imperial Valley Soccer Association.
The Calexico City Council appointed me a Commissioner of the Calexico Housing Authority for this last term and would again like to be considered and appointed to serve as a Public Commissioner starting November 2023.
My involvements and contributions to the community has given me the foresight and ability to better understand Policies and Procedures needed for the position required.
From the above, I believed I was and can continue to be a great asset in the capacity of Public Commissioner for the Calexico Housing Authority's Board of Directors.
In closing, I will appreciate the Calexico City Council's upmost consideration and appointment.
