SUBJECT: Informational Item: Library Department Programs ========== ====================
Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council of the City of Calexico receives information about the programs being offered at the Camarena Memorial Library and the Carnegie Technology Center.
Background:
The Camarena Memorial provides programs and services to residents of all ages in the City of Calexico. Its programs and services are available to the rest of the Imperial County residents as well.
Partnerships with other local agencies have been formed to augment its services.
Discussion and Analysis:
Camarena Memorial Library offers programming year-round to the residents of Calexico. The library encourages lifelong learning therefore grants are sought to provide literacy services to the community, in addition to grants augmenting funding for summer programming and additional collection development. Due to its shortage of staff, the library seeks partnerships with agencies such as Imperial County Free Library and Imperial County Office of Education to increase its programming repertoire.
