Recommendation:
Proclamation Honoring Acting Fire Chief Ainza for his years of service with the City of Calexico.
Background:
On October 17, 2011, Edward Ainza was hired as a Firefighter/Paramedic, August 15, 2016, limited term Fire Engineer, April 13, 2017, limited term Acting Captain, and permanent Captain on July 30, 2018.
April 27, 2023, Captain Ainza was temporarily appointed as Acting Fire Chief for approximately four weeks. On June 9, 2023, Captain Ainza was again appointed as Acting Fire Chief. He has served a total of eleven months as acting fire chief. Acting Chief Ainza accepted a new position with the City of El Centro, his last day with the city of Calexico is April 15, 2024.
Discussion and Analysis:
During his time as Acting Fire Chief, Mr. Ainza successfully coordinated two emergency declarations:
2023 Tropical Cyclone Hilary and 2024 January Storm. Both storms caused several damages to the city which he was able to address and coordinate with city staff and other agencies.
Among other activities, Acting Fire Chief Ainza coordinated the purchase of equipment necessary to continue the operations of the Calexico Fire Department:

WHEREAS, the Calexico City Council believes that it is important that we honor and acknowledge those people who contribute to the citizens of the City of Calexico; and WHEREAS, the Calexico City Council here today expresses its appreciation to Acting Chief Eduardo Ainza and honor him for his distinguished 12-year career with the City of Calexico and for his dedicated service to the residents of Calexico; and
WHEREAS, Acting Chief Ainza began his career with the City of Calexico in October 2011 where he held the following positions throughout his years of service:

WHEREAS, the City of Calexico wishes to honor Acting Chief Eduardo Ainza for his professionalism, wisdom, dedication and distinguished service to the citizens of this great City and commemorate his many years of service.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Calexico wishes to express its appreciation to Acting Chief Eduardo Ainza for fis loyalty to the City of Calexico and wish him much happiness as he begins this new chapter in his career.
