Recommendation:
City Staff and the Community Services Commission recommends placing donated art piece "Velocidad" by Eduardo Auyon Gerardo at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, Location #1.
Background:
On February 16, 2024, Manuel Auyon Lau, son of late artist Eduardo Auyon Gerardo, donated "Velocidad," one of his father's art pieces, to the City of Calexico.

City Staff identified three potential locations at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center for the placement of the art piece.
On April 10, 2024, the Community Services Commission met to review and discuss recommended locations and approved to submit a recommendation to the City Council for the placement of "'Velocidad" by Eduardo Auyon Gerardo at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, Location #1.

Subject: Recommendation for the Placement of Donated Art Piece "Velocidad" by Eduardo Auyon Gerardo
Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council,
I am writing to you on behalf of the City of Calexico Community Services Commission to recommend the placement of the donated art piece "Velocidad" by Eduardo Auyon Gerardo at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, location #1.
During our meeting on April 10, 2024, the commission engaged in a thorough discussion regarding the placement of "Velocidad" and its potential impact on the community. After careful consideration and evaluation of the art piece and its significance, the commission approved a recommendation to the City Council for its placement at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, location #1.
Adding "Velocidad" to the arts center will enrich the cultural and artistic ambiance of the facility, providing visitors with a unique and engaging artistic experience. This addition will not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the arts center but also contribute to the promotion and appreciation of local and donated artworks within our community.
We believe that the placement of "Velocidad" aligns with our ongoing efforts to support and showcase local and binational artists while also enhancing the cultural and artistic offerings available to our residents and visitors.
We kindly request the City Council's support and approval of this recommendation to place Eduardo Auyon Gerardo's "Velocidad" at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center, location #1.
