Recommendation:
City Council to appoint Mariano O. Valenzuela as General Commissioner to the Calexico Housing Authority Board
Background:
The position of General Commissioner to the Calexico Housing Authority Board became vacant due to the resignation of Margaret Sauza on May 1, 2024. The City Council as a whole needs to fill this position. The position was advertised on the City website, City Hall and at the Calexico Housing Authority.
Discussion and Analysis:
Qualified applicants for this position must be residents of the City of Calexico. The following applications were received:

This letter serves as my official request to be appointed as a board member of the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico.
I have been living in the City of Calexico for over 35 years, and I currently reside at Calexico. here In
I am a retired person, who was employed by the Housing Authority of the City of Calexico for over 30 years, where 1 held the position of the finance department director until 1 retired in April 2023.
During the many years that I worked for the Calexico Housing Authority, I was able to obtain and accumulate a lot of experience related to government/affordable housing and I was able to obtain different certifications (see attached copies) under the different areas administrated by the housing agency, including but not limited to, Public Housing and Section 8 Budgeting Certification, Capital Improvement Modernization program and Construction Certification, Section 8 Program and Public Housing Program Inspector Certification and some others.
I also hold an active Real Estate Broker License approved by the State of California.
Based on my knowledge and experience related to affordable housing industry, I believe that I am prepared to be a good asset for the board and to do a good job as commissioner on this board.
As i previously mentioned, I am retired, all my children are adults and all are married and working locally in education and health area.
I want to use my knowledge and experience to give something back to my community in Calexico, specially now that affordable housing for low income families almost disappeared.
