SUBJECT: Appointment or Confirmation by Mayor Pro Tem Moreno to the following Commissions, Boards and Committees:

Recommendation:
Appointment by Mayor Moreno to the following Commissions, Boards and Committees:
a) Personnel Commission
b) Planning Commission
Background:
Through resignations and vacancies exist on the Personnel Commission and Planning Commission for Mayor Pro Tem Moreno. Mayor Pro Tem Moreno must make appointments to fill the positions vacant.
Discussion and Analysis:
Pursuant to section 2.19.010, each councilmember will appoint one member to each board, commission or committee. No ratification/approval by the whole Council is required.
The criteria for an appointee to hold office is listed below:
1. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 1226, Section 2.19.030 Eligibility Sections A-E.
A. To be eligible for, and to hold appointment, each appointee shall neither hold public office, or city employment, nor shall he/she be an officer of any local, state or national partisan official group. All members of commissions, boards, and committees of the city shall be residents of the city or shall regularly work within the city.
B. Members of the city council may by appointed by the majority of the city council to attend commission, board or committee meetings as liaisons to the city council.
C. Appointee shall be subject to the conflict -of-interest sections of the Political Reform Act of 1974.
D. An individual may serve on only one commission, board or committee at any time.
E. With the exception of the planning commission, which shall receive compensation as determined by the city council, commission, board and committee members shall receive a stipend of fifty dollars ($50) for each meeting that the member attends. The city manager or city council may authorize the reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred by the members in the performance of their duties.

I am writing to express my interest in serving as a commissioner on the City of Calexico's Planning Commission.
Having a deep interest in community development and urban planning, 1 am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of our city.
My professional background includes a BA. Architecture, ample experience serving as the former Administrative Assistant for the Planning and Building Services Department and working as a freelance consultant; all of which have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in planning, zoning, and development. For instance, while working for the Planning & Building Services Department, I was actively involved in reviewing and approving development projects for permitting, making recommendations for project compliance with current codes and entitlement processes, preparing Planning Commission agendas, notices, minutes, and staff reports; all which built my knowledge in land use planning, community engagement, and regulatory compliance.
Living in Calexico for 23 years, I have developed a strong connection to the community and a keen awareness of the challenges and opportunities we face. I am particularly passionate about improving our public spaces and infrastructure, as well as fostering economic development in our city. I believe my background and dedication can help advance these initiatives effectively.
Moreover, my ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including residents, developers, and government officials, positions me well to serve on the Planning Commission. I am confident that my skills and experience can contribute to the commission and the community at large.
