Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council of the City of Calexico approve the following items:
a) Authorize the City Manager to Sign Change Order No. 13 with A&N Quality Builders in the Amount of $7,066.00 for Renovations to Calexico Fire Station No. 2. b) Adopt Budget Amendment Resolution for Fund No. No. 255 - American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) in the Amount of $7,066.00 for Calexico Fire Station No. 2.
Background:
On March 6, 2024, the City Council of the City of Calexico awarded the bid proposal for the Renovations to Calexico Fire Station No. 2 to A&N Quality Builders in the amount of $966,559.00 and authorized the City Manager to approve any future change orders not-to-exceed $48,328.00 (5% of A&N Quality Builders Base Bid) as Per City Ordinance No. 1218.
On April 16, 2024, the City Manager approved Change Order No. 1 in the amount of -$24,560.00.
On May 8, 2024, the City Council of the City of Calexico approved Change Order No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 in the amount of $315,284.00.
On June 5, 2024, the City Council of the City of Calexico approved Change Order No. 6 through 12 in the amount of $247,927.00.
On August 21, 2024, the City Council of the City of Calexico approved Change Order No. 13 in the amount of $15,505.00.
Discussion and Analysis:
There are two (2) exhaust vents within the Apparatus Bays with existing ducting in the walls extending to fans located on the roof of Fire Station No. 2. There is adequate electrical circuitry extending to the fans; however, there is no control circuitry to activate and deactivate the fans.
It was requested that a change order be issued to install two (2) separate gas detectors (one for each fan), a control panel and control circuity to activate the exhaust fans to expel harmful carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) gases and deactivate the exhaust fans when the gas concentrations are reduced to an acceptable level.
If Change Order No. 14 is approved, A&N Quality Builders new contract amount will be $1,552,341.00.
