SUBJECT: Adopt Budget Amendment Resolution for FY 2024-25 authorizing the addition of a Full-Time In-House City Attorney and fund allocation within the same department.
Recommendation:
Adopt Budget Amendment Resolution for FY 2024-25 authorizing the addition of A Full-Time In-House City Attorney and fund allocation within the same department.
Background:
On September 4, 2024, the City Council provided staff with directions to create a job description for an in-house City Attorney. On October 2, 2024, the job description was approved, and the City Council gave directions to add the position to FY 2024-25 Budget.
Discussion & Analysis:
The position will receive direction and oversight from the City Manager as an executive level manager in the Administrative Office of the City Manager. The in-house City Attorney would be required to have an extensive knowledge and experience in municipal law, employment law, land use law, and/or litigation, including management experience within a public entity.
Fiscal Impact:
The City Attorney's salaries and benefits calculated at Range 70, Step 2; with a total fiscal impact for FY 2024-25 calculated for seven months (December 2024 thru June 2025) would be $136,360.00. It is recommended to transfer funds within the department.
