Public Works Department
Streets & Parks Maintenance
Introduction
The City of Calexico Public Works Department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all the infrastructure of the City. This infrastructure includes the underground installations that serve our Water, Sanitary Sewer and Storm Sewer needs, and the surface infrastructure, that allows us to move ourselves within the City, in a safe and efficient manner, such as the streets, sidewalks, and bike lanes. In addition to that, the City's recreational spaces, the parks, are also maintained by the Public Works Department.
Ensuring that every aspect of the delivery of public services to the residents is achieved seamlessly and without problems is no small task, and requires a great effort between everyone involved in the department. From having streets in good conditions, to accessible ramps and sidewalks free of debris, to parks that are clean and welcoming to the community, the department works to provide the best service possible to the residents.
The Public Works Department has crews that work on the maintenance of the parks, green spaces, alleys and downtown sidewalks, all of them coordinated by the department's management, with the purpose of optimizing the available resources to deliver a quality service.

An important clarification is that, there are certain conditions that might affect the execution of the maintenance, such as:
- Holidays.
- Shortage of staff (vacancies, medical leave, etc.)
- Equipment (lack of equipment, repairs, etc.)
- Special Projects/Events (downtown events, tournaments, etc.) - Weather (winds, storms, etc.)
- Removal and/or transport of homeless items
An integral part of the parks, is the inclusion of playgrounds, to provide a place for kids to play and exercise. This component also needs to be maintained in proper conditions, to promote the engagement of both parents and children to use the installations.
The following is a list of photographs showing the current state of some of the playgrounds in the City of Calexico:
