Dear City Council Members/City Manager,
Per CC direction, the Department of Public Works has been working in collaboration with the County's Public Works Department and Caltrans for the installation of traffic counters along Cole Blvd & SR-98 (Birch St) in the segments located between SR-111 (Imperial Avenue) & Bowker Rd within the city limits.
The purpose of this effort is to collect data on heavy semi-truck traffic volume and patterns, which is essential for planning, optimizing traffic flow, and managing local traffic to improve efficiency and safety.
Please see Exhibit "A" which illustrates the proposed location to install said traffic counters along Cole Blvd & SR-98 (Birch St).
Both agencies have been contacted and currently reviewing said Exhibit "A".
While there are no restrictions to install the traffic counters along Cole Blvd because belongs to the City of Calexico, the Right-of-Way SR-98 (Birch St) belongs to Caltrans which triggered a more detailed review from them to decide if any restrictions apply and/or the required documentation to issue an encroachment permit, regardless this a simple/non-invasive installation.
It is anticipated to provide additional information within the following couple of weeks.
