SUBJECT: Installation of Trash Receptables in the Downtown ========== ===========================: ============
Recommendation:
Receive and file report. Provide direction to bring back a draft plan including trash receptable options, a map of future locations, as well as a funding plan to implement the project and provide maintenance.
Background:
The installation of trash receptacles in the downtown area was discussed by the Business Improvement District (BID) Commission at their last meeting held on July 20, 2026. The BID provided direction to the City Council to consider bringing back trash receptables to the benefit of Downtown Calexico.
Discussion and Analysis:
Currently, the City does not provide or maintain trash receptables in the Downtown. Trash receptables can benefit the Downtown because they provide pedestrians and shoppers with a place to dispose of trash. One downside to having receptables in the past was that some business owners utilized the trash receptables for their business waste.
