CITY COUNCIL ITEM REQUEST FORM
The City Council Item Request Form is for members of the City Council to submit written requests to the City Manager's office for inclusion of an item on the next City Council Meeting Agenda. At the meeting where the initial written request is heard, discussion should be limited to whether the item should be added to an agenda and a date, not the merit of the item.

Requesting Member of City Council: Mayor Victor Legaspi Today's Date: September 28, 2026
Is this matter considered Time-Sensitive by another entity deadline? No

WRITTEN REQUEST
I, Mayor Victor Legaspi, hereby request that the following item be placed on the City of Calexico - City Council meeting agenda on October 7, 2026, for consideration.

10.32.020 - Truck routes.

A. Establishment Authority. The chief of police is authorized to establish over an appropriate street or streets and to designate by appropriate signs through traffic routes for the movement of vehicles of two or more tons capacity designed for carrying merchandise, freight or material.

I am requesting that we look into restricting truck traffic on Cole Road between the intersections of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Bowker Road. The only trucks permitted to travel through that area would be those providing services to the local businesses. 1 Adopted by City Council on February 18, 2026 Agenda Policy Handbook My concern is the potential impact that the weight and frequent travel of heavy trucks could have on the roadway over time, potentially accelerating road deterioration and creating additional safety and maintenance concerns for the City.

I am requesting that the Chief of Police review the area and work with the appropriate departments to identify and establish an alternate truck route that would help protect the roadway while maintaining safe and efficient truck access.

The goal is to be proactive in addressing the issue before significant roadway damage occurs and to ensure the safety of motorists, residents, and truck operators. 2 Adopted by City Council on February 18, 2026 Agenda Policy Handbook
