Recommendation:
It is recommended that the City Council of the City of Calexico consider the following request:
1. Community Services Commission (CSC) Request for the removal of playground equipment at Nosotros Park.
Background:
As per Chapter 2.27 of the City of Calexico Municipal Code, the purpose of the Community Services Commission (CSC) is to advise the City Council regarding park, recreational, cultural, art, historical, beautification, and senior-related programs and services that would be of interest and benefit to City residents
Discussion and Analysis:
On August 12, 2026, the Community Services Commission (CS) asked the City to explore removing the existing playground equipment due to potential liability concerns. On September 14, 2026, by a unanimous vote of 5 to 0, CSC authorized CSC Chair to sign the attached letter requesting the removal of the playground equipment at Nostros Park due to potential safety risks.
As stated in the letter, the playground structure and poured-in-place surfacing are severely deteriorated and pose a safety risk. It is recommended that the City Council of the City of Calexico consider CSC request and provide direction.

No fiscal impact at this time.

On behalf of the Community Services Commission (CSC), I respectfully request that the City Council of the City of Calexico direct City staff to remove the existing playground equipment at Nosotros Park to reduce potential safety risks and related liability. The severely deteriorated playground structure and poured-in-place surfacing pose a risk of injury (see pictures enclosed).
