Recommendation:
Staff respectfully request that the City Council consider establishing the following registration fees for the 2026 Christmas Parade:
• Schools, Honorably Discharged Veterans & Sponsors: Free • Regular Registration: $30
• Elected Official/Public Office/Running for Public Office: $125 • Early Bird Registration (discounted if registered by October 31, 2026):
• Regular Entries: $15
• Elected Official/Public Office/Running for Public Office: $70 Background:
The City of Calexico has successfully hosted its annual Christmas Parade since 2018. Over the years, the parade has become a weli-attended community tradition that brings together local schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, community groups, and residents to celebrate the holiday season.
Discussion & Analysis:
For the 2025 Christmas Parade, the City Council established a registration fee structure intended to provide reduced rates for early registration while maintaining exemptions for schools, honorably discharged veterans, and event sponsors.
The approved fees were as follows:
Schools, Honorably Discharged Veterans & Sponsors: Free • Regular Registration: $30
• Elected Official/Public Office/Running for Public Office: $125 • Early Bird Registration:
Regular Entries: $15
• Elected Official/Public Office/Running for Public Office: $70 For the 2026 Christmas Parade, staff recommend that the City Council establish the same registration fee structure as the previous year, including the early-bird discount.
Early-bird registration would be available through October 31, 2026, after which the regular registration rates would apply.
Christmas Parade Registration Deadline is November 16'.
Fiscal Impact:
The fiscal impact will depend on the number of registered participants. Establishing fees could generate additional revenue to help cover parade expenses and reduce reliance on the General Fund and sponsorships.
