Please remove the public notice sign that still sits on the Camarillo Golf Course as a continuous reminder of the
shameful, disingenuous way that New Urban West was treated during the 6+ years of proceedings on this project.
The decision of the council to nix the project was based on logic of (1) no need for senior housing and (2) concerns about density / evacuation of the area all of which was known in the early stages of the project.
Failure to have a decisive NO years ago was a complete
disregard of mutual respect and good faith that every developer should expect from our city. Failure to be decisive early on, cost the developer hundreds of thousands of dollars, and diverted limited city resources that could have been focused on getting other project approved.
I understand the rationale for not approving the project but as a citizen of Camarillo, I was disappointed and embarrassed about how poorly this matter was handled.
1 I’m hopeful we will treat future applicants with greater respect and a timely and good faith process.
