Subject: Review and Adopt FY 2024/25 Council Goals & Objectives
BACKGROUND
Long-term goals and objectives are important in moving the organization and community towards a desired future and provides the framework for setting annual priorities, defining objectives, and allocating the necessary resources to carry out the actions required to reach City Council’s goals. The City Council’s annual Strategic Planning Session (Session) is the first major policy step in preparing the annual budget. This process allows the City to direct organization-wide efforts and resources in ensuring that the most important, highest-priority objectives are accomplished.
On January 31, 2024, as part of the Session, the City Council received a progress update on FY 2023/24 Council Goals & Objectives and provided feedback to City staff on ongoing projects and programs. City Council also discussed and proposed the Draft FY 2024/25 Council Goals & Objectives (Attachment 2) and directed staff to continue working on projects, programs, and tasks as part of department operations and/or special projects and present new Action Strategies that support City Council’s objectives.
DISCUSSION
The Draft FY 2024/25 Council Goals & Objectives with revisions discussed by the City Council are summarized below and provided in redline (Attachment 2). City staff will continue to work on operational functions and on current projects and programs that support the City Council’s objectives and will request appropriations through budget development. Any new Action Strategies that can be evaluated during budget development will be presented to the City Council at the Budget Workshop, in May. Other new Action Strategies will be presented to the City Council during the course of the year for approval, prioritization, and allocation of resources, if required.
