Item Number or Subject Emergency Vehicle Signal Preemption - Transit Vehicle Signal Prioritization
Position Not Applicable
Comments A Camarillo Acorn article mentioned that Camarillo is implementing Emergency Vehicle Signal Preemption. With this technology already being added to signals, it seems like a great time to implement Transit Vehicle Signal Prioritization. Similar to when an emergency signal needs to immediately clear an intersection, fixed route transit vehicles could request the next light on their route stay green longer or switch to green early to shorten trip duration and potentially increase frequency, making transit more competitive with driving private vehicles and reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled.
