RESOLUTION NO. 2024-59
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CAMARILLO APPROVING THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS TO
OXNARD UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR VENTURA
COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE POLICE SERVICES SCHOOL
RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM
The City Council of the City of Camarillo resolves as follows:
SECTION 1:The City Council of the City of Camarillo finds and declares as follows:
A. The City of Camarillo (City) contracts police services with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
B. In approximately 1996, the Ventura County Sheriff’s department began providing support to three local Oxnard Unified high schools in the form of a School Resource Officer Program.
C. As part of the services provided to the City by the Ventura County Sherriff’s Department, the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD) has reimbursed the City monthly for the full School Resource Officer Program costs.
D. At the budget workshop on May 18, 2024, City Council directed staff to undertake steps to process a cost-sharing arrangement beginning in FY 2024/25 where the City would cover 10% of the program cost, with the remaining 90% to be reimbursed by the OUHSD.
E. The FY 2024-25 budget includes an allocation of funds for this cost.
F. This allocation of costs serves the interest of public health, safety and welfare of the community to support safe schools and overall safety to the City.
SECTION 2:The City Council hereby resolves as follows:
A. The City of Camarillo agrees to pay 10% of the cost of the total annual School Resource Officer Program rate for the next three fiscal years.
B. The City of Camarillo Police Department will evaluate Sheriff Deputy rates each year and program costs will be updated and presented in the budget annually for City Council approval.
C. The City Manager is authorized to take actions to effectuate the allocation of funds as so approved, including executing any agreements.
