Subject: Library Activity Updates – Receive and File
BACKGROUND
Staff provides the Library Board of Trustees monthly updates on activities at the Camarillo Public Library.
DISCUSSION
A Library & RFBC Activity Report from August 2024 is included as Attachment 1, featuring Library Highlights, Professional Development, Literacy/ESL, and updates on the Russell Fischer Business Collection (RFBC) for the month of August.
The California Library Association's 2024 PRExcellence Awards Committee awarded Camarillo Public Library for its media entry titled "Book Club in a Bag: A Wes Anderson Take."
“The PRExcellence Awards honors the highest quality efforts of California libraries in promoting and communicating their message to their customers” (cla-net.org).
The library’s entry was selected as winner in the category of Less Than $10M Budget – Event or Campaign. Camarillo Public Library's Marketing Coordinator, Cheyanne Walker, highlighted the Library's Book Club in a Bag service in a creative Instagram Reel. Walker filmed staff from each library department, who acted in numerous roles in the style of filmmaker Wes Anderson, which was a popular trend at the time. The efforts of her work were well worth it. After the Reel debuted in July 2023, Book Club in a Bag check-outs doubled from July to August. Overwhelmingly positive feedback from the community and continued interest in Book Club in a Bag has led us to increase the number of titles and available kits from 12 to 17. Walker will receive the PRExcellence Award at the California Library Association Annual Conference Awards Gala on Friday, October 18 along with other award winners.
