Subject: City Council Policy 1.05 – City Council Meetings
BACKGROUND
City Council Policy 1.05 was first adopted in 1988 and last amended on February 8, 2023. Changes were made to the public hearing and public comment times as part of the efforts to streamline the meetings to create efficiency and flexibility.
DISCUSSION
The previous revision to set the general public time at 6:00 p.m. has resulted in time gaps.
To maintain meeting efficiency, staff recommends removing the set time for the general public comment time to allow for flexibility and placing them at the beginning of the City Council Meeting. The Mayor has the ability to ask late-arriving public members if they wish to speak on any items that are not on the agenda.
On January 23, 2025, the Policy Committee reviewed the proposed amendments and forwarded the item for City Council’s review and adoption.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no budget impact as a result of this action.
RECOMMENDATION
Review and adopt the amendments to Policy 1.05.
