Subject: City Council Policy 1.07 Recognition of Individuals and Organizations - Amendment
BACKGROUND
Policy 1.07 establishes the guidelines for special recognition of individuals and organizations. The policy was last amended on December 9, 2020.
DISCUSSION
Staff is recommending an amendment to the exemptions in Policy 1.07 for the issuance of Proclamations. Currently the policy states a proclamation shall not be issued for political or religious purposes.
The proposed amendment would add commercial enterprises as an ineligible use to be consistent with Policy 2.01 Public Information and Communication Media section C.2.
Ineligible Content, which includes the promotion or advertisement of privately-owned businesses and commercial enterprises. This amendment would not impact the ability to issue a Certificate of Recognition for new businesses and grand openings.
On March 27, 2025, the Policy Committee reviewed the proposed amendment and requested the policy be forwarded for City Council’s review and adoption.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no budget impact as a result of this action.
