Library Highlights
In recognition of Women's History Month, the library
organized a musical performance showcasing the
contributions of women composers over the centuries.
Flutist Ann Erwin and pianist Raya Sadigusky led 54
attendees on a musical journey celebrating composers
like Anna Amalia and Mel Bonis. In Youth Services,
Mayor Emeritus Charlotte Craven read Rosie Revere,
Engineer to a group of preschool-age children. Sixty-five participants enjoyed speaking with our special guest
during and after the storytime. Flutist Ann Erwin
This month the library hosted a Mardi Gras Extravaganza with a live jazz band and mask decorating craft on Fat Tuesday. Over 155 people were treated to 90 minutes of live jazz music that celebrated the culture of New Orleans. In March we also honor Cesar Chavez Day. Adult Services hosted guest speaker Professor Frank Barajas from California State University Channel Islands, who presented the legacy of Cesar Chavez and his impact on Ventura County to fourteen attendees.
Youth Services kept things lucky with a St. Patrick's
Day leprechaun-themed scavenger hunt and
shamrock doll craft for families to enjoy together.
Over 230 people participated. In addition, talented
young dancers from the Ventura County Ballet
performed enchanting vignettes from the classic
fairy tale of Cinderella to an audience of 200 people.
The library's Teen Librarian hosted a henna artistry
workshop with specialized henna artist Suchita
Soitkar. Ten teens learned the history, traditional
designs and techniques of henna and had the
Mardi Gras Extravaganza opportunity to have henna designed on their hands.
