After posting about the celebration on social media, the Library received several inquiries from adults interested in joining the program.
Earth Month is celebrated in April. To promote the City’s Sustainability Master Plan, the Library offered a gardening basics course for kids and adults on April 5 with four people attending. The Library also hosted a fun and informative “Tomato Time” gardening workshop, drawing 22 participants. One patron commented that these workbooks were meaningful to her and her biracial daughter, as it was a tangible way for them to experience her daughter’s culture together. Other participants noted their interest in different calligraphy from across the globe, making this not only a successful program but one we can replicate in the future with other languages and cultures.

RUSSELL FISCHER BUSINESS COLLECTION
Business Services Coordinator Maegan Profeta
hosted a successful “Summer Hustle 101: A Teen's
Guide to Landing a Summer Job” for teenagers aged
13 to 18. Twenty-eight teens attended. The
workshop provided an overview of the job-hunting
process for teens, including tips on what kinds of
jobs to look for, job applications and what to expect
during an interview. Maegan shared a lot of
information with the eager audience and was met
with positive feedback. She suggested the Camarillo
Career and Internship Fair as a future opportunity for
teenagers and offered assistance in reviewing their
résumés to prepare them for the event.
Operating within the Camarillo Public Library, the Russell Fischer Business Collection (RFBC) is embedded in the Camarillo business community and greater entrepreneur ecosystem. The RFBC provides professional and business development opportunities through special events and a curated collection of top business resources.
In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, the Russell Fischer Business Collection (RFBC) offered Personal Finance Starter Kits. The kits included a book list, a website resource list, spending trackers, budget worksheets and a folder for organizing. All 52 physical kits were claimed within a week.
Patrons expressed their appreciation for having a starting point on what can be an overwhelming topic. Due to its popularity, a digital version of the kit was made available and was well-received.
Maegan represented the RFBC at the
Camarillo Career and Internship Fair on
April 24. Maegan was pleased to see a few
teens from her Summer Hustle 101
program earlier in the month in attendance
at the fair. Among the 45 people she spoke
with, many were interested in her quick
résumé review service and made requests
for meetings. Attendees showed interest in

May will bring a new program titled “New Beginnings: Job Search Workshop,” which is geared towards workers who are facing a career change. Attendees will learn how to craft a compelling résumé that highlights their skills and get expert tips on interview preparation and follow-up. This workshop will also cover strategies for coping with job loss, maintaining a positive attitude and using online resources and job placement agencies to find your next opportunity. The always popular Stock Market Boot Camp is back in May with financial advisors from Duncan-Newman Associates.
Attendees will learn the basic building blocks of investing through three easy-to-understand classes.
In honor of Earth Day, RFBC hosted a Small
Businesses and Clean Air Workshop, presented
by the Ventura County Air Pollution Control
District. This informative session featured an
overview of permitting, grants, air quality
information and best practices relevant to local
small business owners. This workshop provided
small business owners in Ventura County with
essential knowledge for sustainable operations,
helping them contribute to cleaner air.
Maegan’s job search assistance and résumé
review service has become popular this spring.
She assisted a new Camarillo resident who had
moved to the United States from Ukraine over a
year ago. Despite holding a graduate degree in finance, the patron was seeking Quality Assurance roles in IT and expressed a willingness to accept any job to gain employment, a sentiment Maegan frequently encounters with job seekers. Maegan suggested relevant Ventura County employers and provided feedback to help improve their résumé. The patron was grateful for the assistance and is currently in the process of applying for open positions.
