Comments Dear Mayor Kildee and members of City Council, I cannot attend the City Council meeting tonight but that doesn’t mean I won’t still speak up for what is right.

In the midst of this holiday season, I can’t help thinking of the families that won’t get to spend this time together. Of the families who will spend this joyful season unable to leave their homes because of the fear that they will not return there at the end of the day. The kids who are asking Santa not for toys but for safety. I ask you to do the same. Take a moment to think about the over 1,100 families that have reached out to 805 Undocufund for assistance because a loved one who was
abducted by ICE this year across the Central Coast, especially the 406 individuals abducted from within Camarillo. Take a moment to reflect on the privilege you hold sitting on the dais and what you can do to help our vulnerable neighbors. There is 1 so much you can do to help your constituents in need.

Create an Immigrant Resources and Response committee.

Allow us to have a dialogue beyond 3 minutes every two weeks on how we can aid the people who are hurting.

Work with Moorpark, Ojai and Thousand Oaks to create
oversight of Sheriff contracted services. Community trust in police is decreasing because of ICE, work to rebuild that trust and increase public safety.

Support a legal defense fund to bolster legal resources for families impacted by immigration action. Everyone has a right to Due Process, so let’s help defend that right.

Learn from Oxnard who is already taking these actions. They immediately joined Vasquez Perdomo v Noem and Newsom v
Trump. They have created an immigration stakeholders meeting where the mayor, a city council member, city staff, chief of police, and Oxnard fire meet with community leaders to discuss how to support the community with information, resources and/or services. They also recently dedicated $600,000 in matching funds for an additional Ventura County Public
Defender position over 3 years

The contribution of $70,000 to FoodShare is a great start but there is a lot of people in need of support currently and we cannot stop there.

Thank you,
Sarah Wilczewski
