Comments Dear Mayor Kildee and members of the City Council, First of all, I’d like to thank council members Tennessen and Santangelo for agreeing to bring the CFROG oil and gas
phaseout resolution to the full council for consideration. Putting this resolution on the agenda will foster important conversation about climate, and finally allow Camarillo youth to voice their support for the resolution nearly a year after initially proposing it to the council. In a city that has been so directly impacted by shifting climate patterns, I believe it’s vital to have open community discussions about this global crisis.

Secondly - while I am disappointed the statement supporting the Make Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act has been
omitted, I understand the reasoning considering the current status of the bills. As an alternative, I would encourage the city council to ask staff about including new language in the 1 resolution to support the general concept of a California climate superfund paid into by top polluting corporations. With these bills likely to be overhauled and reintroduced in next year's legislative session, the city has the opportunity to let lawmakers know that a climate superfund is desirable for cities in need of funding for climate resiliency. This can help shape future versions of the bill, and potentially put Camarillo in a better position to receive funding should a superfund ever be created.

If lawmakers see cities like Camarillo expressing the desire for funding through a superfund, they could be more likely to tailor the bill toward benefiting cities like ours. I believe we should not get bogged down by the details of this current bill (which is unlikely to survive this session anyway), and stay ahead of the curve by supporting the general notion of a climate superfund.

Thank you again for agreeing to hear this item at the next council meeting, and I hope you will consider my input and the input of others speaking on this topic today.

Thank you all for everything you do for our community,
Eric Burschinger
