Comments Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council, I want to begin by thanking the City of Camarillo for offering the Las Personas Community Academy. Programs like this are
incredibly valuable to residents who want to better understand how our local government works and how we can be more
engaged in our community.
I truly enjoyed the experience and learned so much about how our city operates, the many departments that keep it running, and the thoughtful work that goes into local decision making. It was an eye-opening and rewarding experience, and I have already recommended the program to several people who I believe would also greatly appreciate and benefit from
participating.
I am disappointed that I cannot be there in person tonight with 1 my fellow academy participants as we are recognized by this Council, but I wanted to share how meaningful this experience has been for me. Completing this program has only deepened my passion and commitment to this community and
strengthened my desire to become more involved in the civic life of Camarillo.
As I shared with some of you, every decision I make and every issue I engage with comes from one place: being the mother of two Mexican-American girls growing up in this community. Like any parent, I will do anything for my daughters. That includes expecting the very best from our local leaders and advocating for a city where they, and all children, can feel safe, valued, and proud to call Camarillo home.
Thank you again for offering this program and for creating opportunities for residents to better understand and engage with our local government. I look forward to continuing to stay involved and doing my part to help strengthen our community.
