Library & RFBC Activity Report
National Library Week, celebrated each April since 1958, is an annual initiative by the American Library Association (ALA) to honor the vital role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. It promotes library use and highlights resources beyond books, such as technology, literacy services, and programs. In celebration of National Library Week, the library hosted Mayor David
Tennessen and Vice Mayor Martita Martinez-Bravo as special readers for our preschool storytimes. Combined they read to over 150 children. In our Adult Services Department, staff created 60 National Library Week Reading Journal Kits for patrons, which included a journal, library related stickers, a “What to Read Next” leaflet, and a special ALA created bookmark celebrating National Library Week.
April is National Financial Literacy Month. The library hosted a “Money Talks for Teens” that included Banking Basics and Budgeting 101 with eight teens attending. Russell Fischer Business Collection hosted a workshop titled “Summer Hustle 101: A Teen’s Guide to Landing a Summer Job,” led by the Library’s Business Services Coordinator. Afterwards, our Business Services Coordinator offered assistance in reviewing teens’ résumés to prepare them for the City of Camarillo Job Fair on May 4.

Eighty-seven participants from around the world practiced their listening and speaking skills with the support of 29 volunteer tutors and Adult Literacy/ESL staff.
The library was proud to honor and celebrate five new
graduates from the Career Online High School program at the Camarillo City Council meeting on April 22. These adult students earned both their high school diplomas and
career certificates in fields such as office management, manufacturing, commercial driving and general career
preparedness with scholarships paid for by the California State Library. After the ceremony, one of our graduates sent us the following: “I just want to thank everyone that made our graduation so memorable. I do feel like I graduated like my class of 1983. Thank you for making this so special.” April is National Arab American Heritage Month. Adult Services staff offered 40 Arab-inspired Tile Mosaic Painting kits, which included a ceramic tile, a 12-piece paint and brush pack, an Arab-inspired mosaic stencil, and a leaflet explaining the historical connection that Arab countries and cultures have with mosaic style art and structures. In addition, the Seed Library offered a “Grow Your Own Tabbouleh Garden” kit, which included seeds to grow parsley, tomatoes, scallions, and spearmint along with a recipe for this flavorful salad. Forty people claimed the kit and shared personal stories of making tabbouleh with their families.

Personal Finanace Starter Kits
The Russell Fischer Business Collection (RFBC) celebrated Financial Literacy Month by sharing resources and
programming that provided financial knowledge to library patrons. The library provided Personal Finance Starter Kits, which included worksheets, habit and time management
trackers, and helpful resources to assist with positive financial habits. Eighty-eight patrons claimed the kits, which surpassed last year’s claim (50).
RFBC continues its partnership with Women’s Economic Ventures (WEV) and hosted a “Financial Empowerment for Women” series. Offered in both English and Spanish, the series focuses on goal setting, money mindsets, and building financial resilience through communal accountability. The English session had 7 attendees, and the Spanish session had 14 attendees.
Camarillo Public Library debuted a new digital resource titled “Money Matters: Financial Independence for Teens”. Authored by an Accredited Financial Counselor, this digital guide breaks down concepts such as bank accounts, credit, and goal-
oriented saving into easy-to-understand steps for teens. It was thoughtfully produced with local teens in mind, drawing on information from past teen programming to shape its content and format. Eight patrons accessed the resource this month. To ensure long-term impact, “Money Matters: Financial
Independence for Teens” will remain accessible through the library’s teen webpage and on-site QR codes.

Business Services Coordinator, Maegan Profeta, offered a “Summer Hustle 101: A Teen’s Guide to Landing a Summer Job workshop”. Teens had thoughtful questions such as how to list volunteer experience on a résumé and the best way to describe tasks of working in a food truck. Both teens were informed of the Camarillo Job Fair in May and indicated that they would attend.
Looking ahead to May, RFBC will focus on providing professional development and financial literacy programs. Offerings include "Understanding Social Security," a session led by Certified Financial Planner and Executive Vice President, Hasan Najmuddin of Duncan-Newman Associates, which will provide attendees with clarity on benefit calculations, optimal collection ages, and taxation related to Social Security.
Additionally, RFBC will host a "Résumé Refresh" workshop that will help participants build practical, beginner- friendly skills to tailor their résumés.
